I don't know but I would encourage you to use other sites than Limewire. Limewire is to downloading as 8 Tracks are to music. I guess that's just my opinion but I have heard of many viruses and poor quality downloads coming from that site.

not neccessairly a product of limewire. more likely a product of what you have downloaded. limewire or not. probably could have gotten them just as easily with emule or other p2p type programs. i have heard that limewire does install adware on the initial install.

i use emule and before opening anything i have downloaded i scan with avg. so far thats kept my system clean. i also use a newsgroup service if i am looking for something in particular. like easynews or usenet.

i used to have nav but i think the free version of avg is less of a resource hog and does a good job.

btw limewire is a program and not a site.

Thanks guys.

I was also installing and uninstalling several programs last week to convert AVI. files to DVD. May have been the problem.
Just spent all night running Trend Micro, hopefully some help.

A couple of things about this:

A) You are right. I have done extensive testing on anti-virus software programs and Norton, Trend-Micro, & McAfee are all worthless. So far my favorite program has been "Zone Alarm" but Bit-Defender & F-Secure have the highest ratings.

B) I have not found any one program that will remove all viruses but MalwareBytes, & F-Secure Online Scan will remove most viruses. If you know the name of the virus, then you can do a search online for how to remove it and someone will point you to the correct virus removal program.

C) Use BitTorrents instead of limewire or other P2P software. I setup a new virtual machine this week at work for testing purposes. I wanted to get some new viruses to test anti-virus software and when I went online to search for more viruses than the ones I already had the best suggestion I received was to download a small file on Limewire that should be huge (example: a 3mb file that is supposed to be photoshop). LimeWire really is infested with a lot of viruses.

If you want to download things use utorrent for your downloading client:
http://www.utorrent.com/

And use either http://thepiratebay.org/ or http://isohunt.com/ to find the files you want.

No that I have explained that let me clarify that these programs should be used for the exchanging of freeware (such as openoffice, ubuntu, gimp, etc.) and I would never suggest the illegal downloading of copyrighted material.

I use Kaspersky for my internet protection, like it a lot it updates numerous times during the day to keep up very up to date on the latest threats. I have had very good luck with it.
