Okay here is a quick tutorial for a very simple way to use a proxy server:
This is done in FireFox but Internet Explorer is VERY similar
(Firefox is just tons cooler)
1. Go to IPChicken.com and check your external IP Address

2. Go to http://proxy4free.com/page1.html and pick the IP Address of the country from which you would like your Proxy Server's Address
(You may have to try several until you find one you like without any noticeable speed difference).

3. In Firefox Go Tools \ Options

3. Go to Advanced \ Networking \ Connection Settings

4. Select Manual Proxy Configuration and enter the IP Address and the port you chose form proxy4free.com and click ok
5. Now check and see if you have internet again. It could take a couple of seconds to start back up. If you do not have internet, then try a different Proxy Server. If you do have internet go back to IPChicken.com and verify your out facing IP Address.

Now usually you would use a Proxy server to get passed a website which restricts access from a specific country or because of general privacy concerns. There are programs and better yet hardware you can purchase to do a much better job but for the most part this simple proxy server trick will work just fine for most of your proxy needs.
