Hi everyone!
I just discovered this site while searching for information and tips on an upcoming trip. I've already learned that there are a lot of people here who share my passions and are generous of their time and knowledge. What a nice find!
My name is Paul and I live in the Santa Cruz mountains of Central California (people try to call it Northern CA, but there's a whole lot more CA to my north!).
My outdoor pursuits include backpacking, hiking, trail running, alpine skiing (resort and backcountry) and canyoneering. In my younger days I was a mediocre rock climber too.
I'm married and we have a son who is 12. My wife and I will celebrate our 25th anniversary this year. She had never camped before she met me but she's adapted well to this lifestyle starting right with our honeymoon when we quit our jobs and traveled for 5 months including one month trekking in Nepal.
I'm a huge fan of the Utah canyon country. I had visited all the major national parks with my parents back when dinosaurs ruled the earth. But, I first went backpacking in Canyonlands in '81 with some friends who told me we were going to visit "The Center of the Universe". Sounds corny, but I think they were right.
Here's a couple snapshots from our last trip to the Needles in '06.
