I actually called one of the instructors about this, and he said that the beginner classes are for... more like old ladies who just got one of those fancy new cameras that dont even need film, but somehow they have to use a computer to make it all work

You could probally learn just as much by getting a few books from the library on exposure and composition and going out and shooting. Also you can pick up alot shooting and hanging out with other photographers.
Another thing is to find a good photography site where you can get openly (harshly) critiqued. There are some very active boards around the net depending on what platform you shoot and a few others are more generic.

I don't know myself. My wife is going to try and go to the scrapbooking photo class. It runs over the basics, but she's a noob so I think it'll be good for her. She's excited for it. I'll let ya know how it goes.

Photography that happens in camera is really pretty straightforward, and can be learned fairly easily independently. Try getting a book from the library, and if it is too much, consider a class.
I usually tell people I could teach them 98% every technique I use in the field in about an hour. (perhaps, an exaggeration, but not really)
Lets be honest, the rest happens at the computer. That's where you should consider a class. And I've heard that UVU has some great classes for just learning. Usually you can email the professor beforehand, and see if it fits your style.
Have fun! :2thumbs:
