Negro Bill Canyon

This is a little valley a few miles from Moab with a most spectacular arch at the end (it's not in Arches NP). In fact I spent 3 days in the Moab area without venturing into the NP...it's a bit jaded for me. Coachloads of 5-minute tourists.

Snow was the flavour of the day again, so boots on, woolly-pulley donned, and I set off from the Colorado river trailhead.

There is a little section of slickrock a few yards into the trail, and this was like a skating rink. Lots of footprints stopped here, and after slipping & sliding my way across, I found myself following only one set of prints, although even these had a dusting from the most recent snowfall the night before.

Very nice, Rob! Negro Bill / Morning Glory is one of my favourite hikes. I've never seen it in winter plumage, though, so thank you! I'll bet that slickrocky bit above the stream was a little disconcerting in the ice...

Rob, were those pic's recent or a couple of weeks ago? We had heard the snow had melted, we were headed down there this weekend to go motorcycling. Might have to go to st. george.
Thanks
Mark

I have camped there at the goose necks a bunch of times (up the road a bit) and I have never hiked up Negro Bill's. It looks like a good hike.
