haha... If anyone can guess this one the contest is fixed for sure.
Are you really going to make us look at a washed out sky for a week?

Nope. Looks like you've been tracking my recent posts in the caving section.

You're a sly one. :haha:

Last month I posted some bushes and a little snow, and we had a winner in less than a week. So, yes, I am going to force you guys to look at a washed out sky for a week. I'm surprised at a how good you guys are, so I've had the need to make these more and more difficult.

the reason we had a winner last time so quickly is because you said who sent you the picture. then, someone looked at Scoutmaster's latest posts, and connected the dots.

I wondered if you would make the same mistake twice...

Looks like the west facing slope of the mountain on your way out of Heber City up to Daniels Summit/Strawberry Res.

It does resemble that area, but nope.

Nope, you are mistaken. I didn't see SM's post until after I submitted my guess. The fact that it was said that SM sent in the picture was a HUGE clue, as I have hiked with him up to the waterfall this past summer... It was only obvious on my part (as well as my going up there several times a year)

Hiking with SM is a great joy. every one should do it. Make sure that you go with him on a day when the kids will be out. :2thumbs:

Nope. Although a good guess because the sandstone formations are somewhat similar.

It's not near Strawberry Res. -- and what's a fish ladder?

Fish ladder (from the orient - here they're not usually made with bamboo):

Adding part 2 looks just like a section of trail on Kimberly Road in the Fishlake National Forest - just north/west of Richfield.

You're right...quite similar, but this image is of a location nowhere near Richfield.

So many locations in Utah look similar to this one...it could be anywhere. If this one goes the distance, there's a clue in the 4th section that's a dead giveaway.

Flaming Gorge?

That's a pretty vague guess. Anything as large as Flaming Gorge, Lake Powell, Great Salt Lake, Utah Lake, etc will need a more detailed guess. I won't count that one Udink, just give me something a little more detailed.

So this contest includes images from only Utah?

I haven't a problem with that, it just helps narrow it down.

Yes, so far the images are kept exclusively in Utah.

Sheep Creek Bay, north side

Ding! Ding!

This is the north side of Sheep Creek Canyon on SR 218, just before heading south on the scenic loop, just up from Sheep Creek Bay on Flaming Gorge. I took the photo several months ago.

Nice Job!

The next contest will resume on Feb. 1. I believe the prize for next month's contest will be a 3/2 wetsuit from www.northwashoutfitters.com, so if you're in need of a new wetsuit, sharpen up your guessing skeeeells!

I'm actually surprised I was able to figure this one out--it's been years since I've been up near Flaming Gorge, but I was at least aware of the type of terrain they have up there. When only the first portion of the photo was visible, I suspected that the camera was tilted when the photo was taken, but when the second part was revealed and I could see the full extent of the upturned strata, I immediately thought of the Vernal area. I thought it was near Red Fleet at first due to the buff colored rocks overlying the red, but after consulting Google Earth, I decided the heavy tree cover more closely matched Sheep Creek near Flaming Gorge.

Thanks Rockgremlin for getting these contests running again. It's a lot of fun trying to figure them out. :2thumbs:
