Quick trip report:

We spent two nights up at Powder Mountain at the Columbine Inn. I'm honestly too exhausted to type.

14" fell the day before we got there, on our first full day, they opened up the high speed quad. By 4pm, another 11" has fallen. Today we woke up to 8" of new snow, and had to clear a foot or so off the car before we could make it out of the parking lot.

The lines were empty, the snow was deep, really deep if you knew where to look...

I'm going to convince Heather that next year, we should rent an apartment in Ogden and get passes to powder mountain. Maybe we can house swap with somebody up in Eden...

Wasn't it beautiful!

My legs were to exhausted to really enjoy it today. In fact I can hardly walk dam knee. That snow was deep. I was at Basin but confined to the two main runs. My friend snowboards and he is still learning, but I didn't lack for powder, just couldn't play like I wanted too.

Powder Mountain in my opinion is a well kept secret so shhhhhhh. :)

We over did it the first day. We dropped into the first lift a few minutes after 9am, and made the hike back from the night lift to our bed around 8pm.

Had I been smart, we would have called it quits a few hours early, and saved our legs for the next day! Much fun was had, we will be back up to powder mountain once the whole mountain is open. I really want to drop into some of there "powder country" lines off the back of the express lift!

We did have one scary moment on our first day up there. We dropped into a bowl just to the left of the hidden lake express lift. After two turns in the deepest powder around, I noticed that the bottom half of the bowl was gone. Heather and I stopped about 10 feet above a huge avalanche path. By the time we got our boards off and started to scramble back to the safety of the cat track, one of the ski patrol members dropped in and closed the run.

As far as I could tell, we were going to make first tracks on that run, glad it slid before we found ourselves in a bad situation

A little bowl of powder keg, tracked out the 2nd day. There was a total of 5 tracks on this bowl at the end of the first day. The blizzard like conditions kept everyone else away... :2thumbs:

We stumbled onto this little slide the day before. It looks mellow with 18" of new snow on it. The slide was all the way to the dirt with a 5 - 6' deep crown. I think the run is called cornice... :D
