300-400 acres in Pisgah Forest could contain materials

The U.S. Forest Service plans to burn 300-400 acres in the Pisgah National Forest this week to clear an area where authorities found explosives while arresting a fugitive.
The agency closed the area south and west of Forest Road 476 in late November after forest service officers and Transylvania County Sheriff's deputies arrested John Joseph Hiles. He was wanted for failing to appear in court on drug charges in Henderson County.
Authorities found ammunition and explosives in a campsite Hiles, 45, was using near the popular Pink Beds hiking area Nov. 21, forest service spokesman Terry Seyden said.
