on baffin island in the territory of nunavut. ooooooohhhhh.... just found my newest dream desdtination. god it looks cool ! already hit up a few people for saving pto for a month here some year. long term plan is incubating, just waiting to hatch (eventually, soem year). any world travelers have any knowledge of the area ? scott ? must see's/do's both backcountry and in the villages ? along the coast ? found some good info on web pages but if anyone has personal experience to encourage/dissuade i'd love to hear it.

Bump! I am surprised this is the only thread about this place. It is a dream destination for me as well! It is basically what Yosemite was like at the end of the Ice Age.

I can't post a link yet but look for the Nunavut Tourism photo page at flickr...

I do have knowlege of it and it's one of my dream destinations too, but since it's expensive to get to and it's hard for me to get time of in summer I haven't been.

Summitpost has some good photos:

I could probably handle the cold, but in the Arctic, there isn't much daylight in winter.

Mark Synott has a guidebook out on Auyuittuq and the Pond Inlet big wall country. Good self-torture material, especially if you're not Charlie Porter or someone of similar talent. The Arctic in general is a good way to learn about the concept of truly clear air!

Of course, Polar Sun Spire is actually not in the park.
I wish the author of that summit post would correct his map coordinates for it and Great Sail...they end up in the ocean!
