Killer Bunnies is my favorite board game. It is a very complex game which offers clever humor through out it's rules and cards. Last year for Christmas my wife and I made a Killer Bunnies theme graham cracker house (instead of ginger bread house) and I just discovered that we were placed on their website.

This is pretty much my equivalent to Scott's National Geographic post :)

You have to tell me more about this game.

I read a bit on the website. Sounds like fun. My neighbor and her sister and their whole family get together every couple of weeks hang out, bbq and play games. We are looking for a new one.

How long does it take to play one game on average? Or is it an ongoing thing and you pick up where you left off?

I don't know what else to ask, it justs sounds like fun!

P.S. CUTE PIC! Love the grahamcraker houses.

The amount of time the game takes of course varies by how well people know how to play. I would say the game usually takes about 40 minutes or so. But I have had some games that lasted 15 minutes and other games that have lasted an hour and a half. There are so many rules that learning it takes a couple of games but it is a lot of fun.

Hey DiscGo, I found this link: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/3699. Is this the game you're referring to? It sounds like fun.

Yep! That is the game. There are also 9 booster packs you can buy and add in. The game is just fun.

The whole object of the game is to go along collecting carrots and trying to get as many bunnies as you can, while kill other people's bunnies. When the game end there is a small deck of cards (which you shuffle before the game and put aside) and whichever carrot matched the bottom card of the mini-deck of carrots wins. So I can have 7 carrots, Jim could have 4, & blueeyessmiling could have 1 and if the bottom carrot matches blueeyessmiling's carrot she wins.

If ever you guys want to play, I'd love to teach you. Or there is a place called BoardGames Revolution (in Orem) that sells games way cheap and even rents them if you want to try it first.

I am going to get this. I will let you know how it goes when we play.

One more question... is there a limit to the number of players you can have at one time?

I know it says for the first time you play that you should have more then 4 and no more then 7. When we get together there are usually 7 adults but we have several of the older kids that want to play the games with us too. So we end up with about 15 people and usually do teams.

My wife and I are pretty into this game, so we have all the expansion packs. There are more then enough cards to play with tons of people and we have played up to 13 people (or so) but it begins to take a while because no way will all those people know how to play and it takes a couple of games to really understand the game.

You should read the rules all the way before playing, and count on it taking about 3 - 5 times playing the game to really make sense. The game is totally worth learning how to play it, and again I offer that if anyone wants to play with us, I'd be more than happy to have people over to learn how.

There is also a simpler version called "Kinder Bunnies" that you can get for little kids to play, so the adults have their game and the kids have theirs. I have played with my little nephews (7-11) and they didn't necessarily understand it, but they REALLY loved it. It is our Christmas gift to them this year (and a wedding gift for an old friend).

So basically....no matter how the game goes all game long, the winner is still a crapshoot?

Those games drive me crazy.

Me too. But it seems to me that there is strategy involved, because the way it was explained, the more carrots you end up with, the more likely that yours will match the winning carrot. At least if I understood that correctly.

That is correct. The more carrots, the more likely the victory.

I am really good at the game. I usually walk away with more bunnies and carrots than everyone else. Even the times that I lose, I usually feel like I win. It brings a lot of fun to the game to have the random drawing at the end, but to each their own.

How many can play with just the Blue starter pack? What do the booster packs give you? The ability to play with more players? New Weapons? Other cool stuff?

I'm looking for some games to give as gifts so this might be a good choice.

I believe the recommended amount of people is 2-8 with or without booster decks. As far as time goes a game of 12 people who know how to play will go faster than a game with 3 people who don't.

The booster decks additional cards, & carrots (which just get more and more enjoyable).

The booster decks go in order. I would suggest probably not going past orange unless you become really into the game. Each booster deck adds additional features and twists to the game. So you can start with just the main game and later on when you are ready for a change add a booster and it totally changes the game.

It is a game that you must count on playing a couple of games until you really start getting it.

Just wanted to mention (while christmas shopping) I saw the game at barnes and nobles, it's the blue starter and yellow booster combined for $25. I picked up the game but havent played it yet. I trust disco though, he's always got good advice.
:2thumbs:

Edit: It looks very similar to "Magic the gathering" if you've ever played that. Just no where near as complicated. But you have 3 resource type cards, food, water, cabbage. And instead of having your own 60 card deck, everyone grabs from a central resource to make it a bit easier config.

DiscGo

Thanks for trusting my opinion. I really hope you end up enjoying the game. Just remember to plan on playing probably at least 3 times before you really start to get it at all.

No problemo buddy. Speaking of cool party games.. have you ever played "apples to apples"? That's my favorite. I've never laughed so hard in my life playing that with friends.

I love Apples to Apples. One of my favorite parts of that game is playing to the judge. Like when someone has the perfect answer for the card but you have a card that means more to the judge and win anyway. I just love it.

Deathcricket
12-16-2008, 08:18 AM
Same here! I'll even pick the silliest answer or the one that is opposite the true meaning just to keep the laughs coming. For example:

Green card = sexy
Red cards = Britney spears, Marilyn Monroe, hot lava, judge judy, red corvette, and Pamela Anderson

Hmmm, between hot lava and judge Judy... tough choice!!

I have been surprised how many times I have won when I was just trying to discard one of my cards in my hand which I thought was a dumb card.

Last week I went down to the bookstore on campus to get some things and saw the Red deck and Orange deck of Killer Bunnies for sale. Bought them both for $18.00. Figured I was going to be buying the starter pack eventually. Yesterday I went down to the bookstore and they had the starter back for $20.00.

Now I just need to have my neighbors over to play.

We bought it a few weeks ago and played it several times (just the wife and I). She was going to make me return it because I won every single game (including a game where I had only 1 carrot).

We invited some friends over tonight and played again and the game has been approved to be added to our permanent collection.

Thanks for the recommendation, it's definitely most fun with a group so you can spread the weapon love around.

DiscGo

My in-laws are super competitive and horrible sports. We had reached the point that I was the only person using weapons when we played together (because nobody wanted to offend anyone by using a weapon) so everyone was getting mad at me. We made a house rule with that group that you cannot discard any aggressive cards. So when we made it that you have to play your weapons (and feed the bunnies) people seemed to take it less personally.

Kent K25
02-09-2009, 09:18 AM
So far we've avoided getting anyone offended. Though I did give my wife some grief last night for only attacking me. She just didn't want to go after our guests on their first times playing it. :ne_nau:

DiscGo
02-09-2009, 10:10 AM
Here is my strategy with that. If I dislike an attack I receive, I change my whole focus in the game from winning to ruining that person. All my weapons and dealings will be devoted to making sure I do everything I can to ensure that person does not win. It is a bit over the top, but after a couple of games with me people think twice before attacking me too much :)

I will second board game revolution. As a game store they truly rival any national internet store. For the cheapest prices order from their online site. But if you can visit their Orem store you will not be disappointed. They have a huge selection instory and online and lots and lots of games you can test drive right there in the store.

Kent K25

Yeah, I tried them already since they were linked earlier in this thread. They are out of stock online, so I emailed them and they are out of stock in the store as well...

"It is out of print right now. It will most likely be put back into print
in the near future. As soon as it is, we'll put it back in stock on the
website. Sorry for the inconvenience."

I was quite impressed with the response time...only a few hours for an email reply from them.
I guess I'll keep checking with them periodically if I can't find it anywhere else for a reasonable price.

Nice. You need to keep going until at least Orange. Orange is great because it adds the pawns.

Kent K25
08-30-2010, 01:27 PM
Yeah, adding little by little....doesn't the deck get HUGE though?

DiscGo
08-30-2010, 02:23 PM
The deck does get really big. What I did was put all of the bunny cards (from all of the expansion packs) into the main blue box, and then I have all of the weapon cards, cabbage, water, carrots, pawns, etc. into the Onyx box (I have kinder bunnies as well, but I leave it in is own box, and seldom use it). That way I only need two boxes and I have everything.

Lately I only play blue & yellow, or Blue to Orange, because I havent' had enough skilled players for the whole thing.

Purple and Red are both before Orange. You'll be alright with our Purple, but you should definitely get red. I love the game, and I hope you do too!

Kent K25

Does the blue starter kit come with the Yellow booster always....? Mine did, but if yours didn't you'll need that too before orange.

From Wikipedia....

The Blue set is the starter deck, and contains eight Carrots.
The Yellow booster deck adds four additional Carrots to the game, and, as of the Epsilon edition, is included with the Blue starter deck.
The Red booster deck (2003) adds Red Bunnies, which are bunnies that have built-in abilities that additionally benefit the player. This booster also adds four additional Carrots to the game.
The Violet booster deck (2003) adds Specialty Bunnies, which are uncolored bunnies which may only be matched with each other to form Bunny Triplets. This booster adds the last four Carrots to the game and the twenty-sided dice.
The Orange booster deck (2004) adds Pawns to the game, which allow certain dice to be re-rolled when a player has them in its possession, as well as allowing certain cards to be played twice before discarding. You can also make a bunny triplet with a pawn of any color and two bunnies of that same color.
The Green booster deck (2004) adds Zodiac cards to the game. Players collect Zodiac cards similarly to Carrots, and at the end of the game, but before the Magic Carrot is revealed, one Zodiac card is revealed to be the winning Zodiac symbol, which grants the holder of the respective Zodiac card greater chances of obtaining the Magic Carrot. Half-color bunnies have also been added, where these bunnies may be treated as either of two different colors.
The Twilight White booster deck (2005) adds The White Stuff, whose holder is granted the exclusive use of a white die which may be substituted for any unfavorable die roll.
The Stainless Steel booster deck (2005) adds Super Bunnies, which are more powerful but incur additional consequences if they are removed from play.
The Perfectly Pink booster deck (2006) adds Pink Bunnies, which are similar to Red Bunnies, but are more powerful. It also adds Ranks which may be assigned to bunnies, allowing the player owning the highest-ranked Bunny a special privilege.
The Wacky Khaki booster deck (2006) adds additional Ranks into the game.
The Ominous Onyx booster deck (2007) adds Mysterious Places to the game. Players can play Mysterious Place cards, and during the game, the last player to draw one is granted the privilege of deciding the destiny of cards with a yellow ball with a red stripe in the picture. At the end of the game before the Winning Zodiac is revealed, the small Mysterious Place deck is inspected, and the player holding the Mysterious Place which matches the one at the bottom of the deck may take all Zodiacs of one color/type from any opponents.
