I don't think we want to add an additional section to the site for IT stuff, but I do have a lot of IT questions :). Does anyone know a good forum for posting questions, and getting responses? (Maybe including a KB as well). The only of which I am aware that has the feel for which I am looking is expertsexchange.com but I really don't want to pay a hundred dollars a year.

If I can't find what I'm looking for, I will probably end up starting one myself.

It really depends on the subject matter. I find that http://windowsitpro.com/ is excellent for just about anything Windows/Exchange/SQL/SharePoint related. They have excellent magazines too that are packed with tips/tricks.

Another might be: http://www.tek-tips.com/

I signed up for expertsexchange.com (made work pay for it of course), it's a good site, probably the best/fastest problem solving forum I have seen. But it is costly.

I tend to go to a manufacturer and looking for their forums.

Yeah, I really think people here could answer most tech questions. I just didn't want to clog the main message board with my constant flow of messages.

I am a little over my head in my current job :), and I've been using the internet to fill the gaps :)

That is the number tool I use to solve most of my problems. In fact, during my interview, you are better answer you use internet to solve problems, or else I would never hire you! :nono:

Yeah, I don't think people mind too much about the tech topics.

Even if I don't think the members here will know the answer, they'll google it for me. :haha:

Maybe when you make a post put something like this in the topic:

[Tech] How do you turn on a PC?
or
[TechQuestion] How do you right click?

I agree. I have gotten a lot of help from everyone.

It would be nice to have an area for the topics as I refer back often.

I'm trying to work between a pc and a mac and it has been a challenge. Thanks to everyone that has helped. :2thumbs:

I ran into my cousin last night, talked about the school computers at my job.

She asked if we deal with macs. I said no, and I looked at her like I knew exactly where this conversation was going.

I braced myself for the mac conversion story and lecture.

Apparently the whole school district is missing out.

Maybe Stefan and your cousin could go bowling sometime.

hey, what can i say ... i started with a mac in '84 and i have spent a bit of time using solaris. i don't really know anything different. my understanding and use of winders is minimal at best and, as a result, i don't really have anything negative to say about it.

I started with a Mac II when I came to this country, actually a Comodore 16 back in Russia, but Mac was my choice of a computer here, until I became a sys admin for a mac network. That is the end of my Mac career.

They are definitely better now with the Linux kernel, but we still don't support Mac at work. It's hard to deviate from a standard and introduce a totally new concept when your users still don't know how to right click.

I think Maddox said it best .....
"Ever notice how most Mac users are skinny? It's because of all the calories they burn because they can't shut the #uck up about how great their Macs are. What is it about Apple that makes its users unable to shut their mouths?"

of course Stefan is exempt

Me - Yeah, I was thinking of doing---
Them - DO YOU HAVE A MAC?
Me - No, but anyways, I thought of a cool video concept that---
Them - WHAY NOT? you should try it especially if you like movies and pictures
Me - Well, I have but Windows seems to---
Them - seriously you should try it
Me - I have
Them - YOU SHOULD
Me - I have
Them - seriously, you should
Me - I have
Them - why don't you try it?
Me - I have
Them - I think you'd like it
Me - OK, I'll try it.

computerhope.com/forum has always seemed good when I had questions. Another one I use is motherboards.org. I think I have a few more at home, but I'm at work right now.
