Spent a few days on the North Rim last week. What a place that big ol' ditch is. Took in a few sunrises on the rim, and did the classic Tapeats/Deer Creek loop. I'll post a few images here, more are here, if interested.

Damn, Carpey! I'm envious. Where do you NOT get to go?
Excellent photos! One day, I'd love to get one of you photogs to teach me some tricks. I suppose having an expensive camera has some role in the outcome..

Nice. :2thumbs:
I'm very interested in beta for the Deerk Creek/Taepeats loop. Actually want to do it. All the beta I find is for one but not both. Basically how long is the traverse through Suprise Valley from Deer Creek to Taepeats. Day Hikeable from camp. Or best if split into two. Doesn't look like you canyoneered Deer Creek looking at your pics.

Hey Shaun. Beta for the loop is straightforward. We went down the Bill Hall, to the esplanade, east out of surprise into Tapeats, down the Tapeats, west up the Colorado, over the saddle into Deer Creek, and back up the Bill Hall.
The portion along the river is a route, not a trail, but it is very simple and straightforward. I'd stay out of surprise valley as much as possible. It is the most boring place on the whole trail. You could easily traverse from Deer Creek to Thunder in one day. Tapeats could be done in one day as well, from Deer Creek. But, the loop is way better.
But, if you want to canyoneer Deer Creek, the logistics are much worse, namely because hauling all that canyoneering gear back up to the rim would be a bitch, to say the least. Maybe if you split ropes with 6 guys it wouldn't be bad... Plus wetsuits. I'd say you are looking at some pretty heavy weight.
That said, if you ever want to go, I'll happily join! That canyon looks dope. And of course, the rest of the hike is phenomenal as well.

Sometimes I wonder if Dan just gets the pics from the interweb, enhances them and posts them here ..... :haha:

Probably the best photos of the Grand Canyon I've seen. The depth is amazing and the lighting perfect. I love that picture of the big cactus - it looks like it's been superimposed on the photo - it's so strange looking. Very cool.
