I went out to the Great Salt Lake yesterday for the first time. It was very cold and windy but I got some great photos. The area we went to was just crazy.
I have quite a few more to process .....

Myself getting high on life.

Nice photos and scenery.

How did you get that jump photo? Looks like you're levitating.

Just throw yourself at the ground and miss :haha:

or use a burst mode w/ 10second timer, jump and lock the legs, little arm action for effect

sweet HDR image summit, you should add that one to the sunset album!

man, it seems like those jumping pictures are EVERYWHERE! they must be the coolest new craze, but I must say that yours is my favorite of all the ones I've seen.

Excellent photos!!! :hail2thechief:

You might be interested in local photographer Michael Slade, he has some really neat GSL photos as well. I've had the opportunity to attend a couple of photo presentations by him, inspiring to say the least.

I somehow did not understand what GSL was until I opened this thread. I had previously not entered it because I kind of thought if I did not know that GSL was, than the post was probably for someone else. Anyway, there is my confession to not being sharper....

Great pictures (as always)!

Sorry for all the questions but I am really liking your pictures. How do you get such nice color? Do you use any types of filters or do you post process them in photoshop? I am also looking to get a wide angle lens and was wondering what you use? I am always looking to learn new things in photography so any information you can throw my way would be cool.
Thanks
Eric

No filters.
Most of these shots are HDR, I generated and tonemapped them with PhotoMatix - http://www.hdrsoft.com/
Then a bit more work in Adobe Lightroom2

I am also looking to get a wide angle lens and was wondering what you use?
I just have a stock 18-55mm lens at the moment. I am pretty set on picking up a 10mm wide here in the next few months.

Eric,
If anyone can take credit for Summit's pictures it is me. I mean sure he was using photomatrix before I talked to him, and sure he has talent and ability (for which I am also working on taking credit) but I totally his camera out. :)

Hey Summit

That is way cool. I have always had a hard time getting the exposure correct for those types of shots. It seems like for outdoor shots that either the sky is to bright or the ground is to dark. I was going to buy a polarizing filter and try that, but I love the way the HDR, Photomatix process looks.

Thanks a lot for the information, I had no idea that was even out there.

Lots of Mud out there this past Firday, I hiked 3 miles more or less wondering around waiting for the sun to set.

So how did you like the spot?

nice to see the salt building up on the posts again.

CarpeyBiggs

the spot is pretty sick man. we got almost no color in the sky, and that little pink lasted just a couple minutes. but that place would go off in good conditions, as evidenced by your photos.

nice find.

Super nice as always -- I love that old pier line!
How muddy was it out there? Last month we tried to hike out there and gave up about 100 yards out.

One of mine that I took in November.

i went in knee deep one time... pretty scary all alone, up to your knees in a sinkhole, trying to get out... :lol8:

it was reasonable though. i could walk out aways.

That pier is pretty sweet. Looks super soggy. I was out there in June a few years ago and it was good to go, although the bugs were pretty bad at the shore and the sunset was lackluster.

By the way, do you guys use big waders or do you just make a mess?

yes

I picked up some knee high irrigation boots at IFA for 13 bucks. They do suck to walk a few miles but the mud can get pretty crazy out there.

Crazy dark clouds out beyond the temple of the birds yesterday afternoon.

Standing in about 8" of water here.
