This one will link back directly to your stream.

also if you go to your photo page, click on all sizes flickr with auto gen the HTML code for embedded image link... but thats not to work here.

Or if you like in large on black try this.

So are imbedded photos always linked to some photo site (flickr, picasa, etc.)?

Image could really be hosted anywhere.
Right click on the image and it will tell you where the image is located, this is one of yours.

Yuppers, as Summit mentioned. Just copy the link to the image, paste to bogley, highlight and hit the "Img" button or put these tags on either side of your image link.

So, once an image is embedded, it is now part of Bogley? So even if I remove the image from my Picasa site, the image still shows in Bogley?

moabfool
10-22-2008, 07:58 AM
No, the image is in its original location. Bogley is just linking to that image. Ever notice the little boxes that say "bandwidth exceeded" or "don't link to this site..."? That's what happens if you link and then remove.

For an example I'll link to a photo and then delete it from my flickr account.

So nobody curses me for not showing the picture I'll add it as an attachment too.

This can also happen in flickr if you re-set the permissions or do a replace.

I found this out the hard way. I changed a lot of my sets to private then went back in and made some of the photos public (the ones I wanted people to see). Long story short that changes the static URL

So Summit, would you recommend adding pics as attachments only so that they are always available on bogley no matter what happens at the original url? I post all my pics as links to my webshots page. But, you have a good point. Maybe I should change to posting them as attachments here. Of course, that probably increases the db size bogley has to maintain exponentially right? Also, when you do attach them don't you have to do some serious resizing to each one (assuming your camera stores high res pictures like mine does)?

Just trying to figure out the best way to do it. Also, thanks for the thread moab. It has been helpful.

Just don't go mucking around with permissions or remove the file for that will only result in a broken link.

I prefer to link images rather then attach them, it looks cleaner in posts.
Flickr resizes your photos for you.. so thats a plus.

Yeah guess I ought to jump on the flickr wagon. I started with webshots and it does the same thing more or less. Thanks for your response.

so if I were to embed an img link to an imaged slide show of some sort... would it cycle through here as well? or just if you refreshed every time?

asdf
10-22-2008, 10:39 AM
Odds are that slide show would be some sort of HTML and Java script.

As far as I know you cant use HTML code in phpBB
I am sure it could work but I am willing to bet its disabled for security reasons....

Wheres acca when you need him?

HTML is enabled. However, it is not the same on message boards. You must use specific tags.

http://www.bogley.com/forum/faq.php#22

Here are the tags that you must use and you need to have it enabled in your own profile too:

b,i,u,pre,table,tr,td,th

*I really like flickr and also SmugMug. They both have some cool features. They allow you to keep your photos organized and lots of options to share them.

Be aware that if you go the Flickr route you're going to be charged an annual fee if you post more than 200 (I think) pictures. I have, at last count, 3300 pictures. One thing I dislike is their upload nazi attitude. It's a royal pain to organize photos by date taken in your photo stream rather than by date uploaded. It can be done by editing the upload date of each individual photo, but with a photo album like mine it's a daunting task. The other thing I don't like is that sets aren't arranged alpha/numarically. Once again it's by date uploaded. If you want your sets in chronological order be sure to create them in chronological order.

I have no idea whether they'll charge you, but KodakGallery (http://www.kodakgallery.com/ShareLandingReg.jsp?Uc=co7k9i2x.66egmaxd&Uy=-f3ufzj&Upost_signin=Slideshow.jsp%3Fmode%3Dfromshare&Ux=0&UV=280223065891_539603210705) is a decent service, and I've seen great things from SnapFish (http://www.snapfish.com/) and PhotoBucket (http://photobucket.com/). One thing I like about Flickr is that I can post video up to 90 seconds long, but I think SnapFish, PhotoBucket and KodakGallery all have this feature as well. Longer than 90 seconds and I'll include a link to YouTube.
