Over the last couple of days we've been getting our UEA on. We spent Friday 4-wheeling on Hart's Point and then Saturday in Island in the Sky. These were not unrelated trips because you can see Grand View Overlook from across the valley from Hart's Point. Hart's Point is a great 4-wheeling trip and contains some fun arches. Aquaduct Arch is an impressive and little known arch that is a bit tricky to get to. We found it and had fun doing so.

In Island in the Sky we did the overlooks and took a short hike to Upheaval Dome. That is quite a unique geologic feature. After that we hunted out False Kiva. That is a fun little hike to a neat place - even if the kiva is not real.

Anyway, here are some pics.

What does the term False Kiva mean?

Cool.

What does the term False Kiva mean?

Well, according to the Park's Information posted at the site, many people falsely believe that the Kiva is real and that the site was sacred to the Anasazi. There were actual ruins in the alcove but the "kiva" was probably built up by the many visitors to the site. Nevertheless, the alcove is definitely a cool place for ruins. The view is clearly worth it.

And for what it's worth, if anyone visits the site the first time you see the alcove you have no idea how to get up into it. The only possible access looks way dicey. However, when you actually get to the approach it turns out to not be so bad so don't be scared off.
