i like raisins ... but i like grapes better ... however, when you pickle a cucumber, i definitely think you ruin it ... pickled ginger is really good though, so are pickled carrots ... but hell, man, raisins are great in the backcountry :2thumbs:

I don't know how much you know about pickling cucumbers but the type of cucumber used for pickling is not good raw. It does not taste the same as the cucumber you buy at a supermarket to use in a salad. If fact it tastes terrible. :nono:

to be honest with you, i didn't know that. i suppose i never really inquired about it given that i don't particularly like pickles. but i just read that immigrants from your country are largely responsible for the popularity of pickles in the united states. pretty cool. i know tons of folks who love them

We have a few times, but they're still not as good as the Koshers or Vlasic. It definitely is a different kind of cucumber. We haven't lately, but we've made "dilly beans" - or dill green beans. They're pretty good, a definite zing to them.
Ugh, I just walked outside and saw that my sunflowers are ready. I haven't the time.....

I've been making pickles according to family recipe for some years now. And it's true, they're not your smooth straight, long, spotless, large cucumbers you buy at a market. Cucumbers used for pickles are curly and best when small. Smoothness of the skin is not at all important. And as someone who had the opportunity to try real Polish, German and Yiddish (kosher) pickles right from the barrel, I can tell you that Vlasic or anything else you get at a supermarket is a joke.
If you want to try some real pickles visit European Tastees at 4700 S 900 E # 51 in Salt Lake. It's a Russian store and they have a very nice selection of Polish and German made pickles. Also worth trying are the cold cuts (Polish smoked bacon straight from Chicago is my favorite) and bread.

i like the little baby dill pickles the best,
love pickled eggs
and i have had a pierogi before good stuff (but they were frozen store bought, not the real thing)
raisins are awesome, so are craisens, and the best of course are chocolate covered raisins, yummmmm

Nah, pickling a cucumber is the only way to make them palatable.

Having attended a taping of "Friends" many years ago, I can say NO! Even with jackets on inside the studio, we froze. :cold: They purposely keep it cold to counter all of the heat which all the lighting emits.

I'm hoping @7 more hours.
You'll see these aren't as dark as your normal raisins, just because of the pinkish color in the grapes.
Also much sweeter than your average raisin.
