The National Park Service confirmed Tuesday that it is preparing a rule that will allow decisions about some mountain bike trails to be made by park managers instead of federal regulators in Washington, a process that can take years.
I was about to reply that these decisions should be made by park managers rather than some douche in Washington, but the I read the article and apparently that is what this is.
Good.

This whole thing makes way too much sense to be true, very unlike anything I would expect out of the folks in Washington. Not that they need to be allowed everywhere (I'm sure most park managers probably won't even consider the options) but it's cool to put the people that know the area best in charge of the decision making.
Would love to see them handle that 'mechanized' clause in the Wilderness Act the same way but I doubt that will ever happen.

Ok, you know I'm a mountain biker and love riding my bike, BUT, I dont think all National Parks should be open to bikes... sorry. I think sometimes, just footprints is just right.

Exactly, it needs to be done on a case by case basis for sure. MTBs have no buisness being in some parks at all and not on certain area/trails in others for a variety of reasons. I just think it's really cool that they are leaving the decision in the hands of park management rather than some desk monkey on the other side of the country.

+1
There are definitely places bikes should not be but it should not be a decision made in Washington it should be made by those on the scene who know the park. This is how government should work.
