A few images from an unintentional encounter with the wolves in Denali. Not sure what pack this was from, as it was around mile 12 on the park road. About 16 of them total, though I only was fast enough to get photos of a couple, including one who was split off from the rest of the pack, and was anxious to be reunited. There was howling all over around me, and the lost wolf ended up running right in front of me, about 35 yards away. Hope the images do the experience some justice.

Nice pics! The more I see of how well Alaska treated you, the less bad I feel about you giving up your job last year :).

Check out the photo blog and you will become an even bigger fan.

So Dan, you gonna go back next summer? I'm contemplating trying to get a traveling job up there for a few months next summer. Get comped an apartment and work 7 on 7 off. Pretty tempting.

Great shots! Were these with the 600 or a shorter focal length?

I'm guessing Dan doesn't even have a delete button for any pics. Always outstanding.

The summer after 9/11 was a weak economic year and the people still came but the tips were noticeably lower than usual. It was still well worth it.

Man, those are incredible shots. The pics are so sharp-- my hands would have been trembling a bit, both out of excitement and fear!
