A friend and I hiked up to the top of Mount Olympus on Saturday. We started off at the trail head around 8 a.m., got to the top after noon, and got back to our car around 6. A decent 10 hours with over 1 hour at the top.

The weather was beautiful. Our climb up was mostly in shade but the lower 2/3 of the mountain on our way back was in some killer sun. There were plenty of people heading up - I think about a dozen at the top together with us.

The hike was quite demanding as it is a pretty steep hill. It's very easy to overestimate your hiking capabilities and use of water, heh. In the middle of our way back we started running out of water and legs became wobbly at times. But all in all, it was a very fun trip. And the cold beer afterwards tasted just that much better :2thumbs:

Looks like a tough but rewarding hike. I especially like the idea of having a cold brew at the top. :2thumbs: I haven't done any hiking in the SLC area before, but this one is high on my to-do list if I ever make it up there. I'll have to bring a couple few beers to make it worth my while. Thanks for the TR.

Thanks for the trip report. This is on my list of to do hikes so any info is great. Sounds like a cool trip. I have heard that there are plenty of rattlesnakes so will wait for cooler weather.

I did not see even one tiny rattle snake but one guy said he did. I think with all the traffic on Saturday, they chose to move away from the trails fairly quickly.
