I'm looking to pick up a Monocog 29er. Any of you have any suggestions as to which Redline dealer I should go to? Called up Hyland and they said they had one in stock for $470. If anybody has hook ups or whatever, let me know.

Thanks.

If this is the one you're talking about:

then it's a smokin deal! Most any other 29'r singlespeed you find will be more $$. You might consider upgrading the brakes at some point but Avid is a great line even in their entry level components. The Maxxis tires are awesome - if that is what it's coming with and the WTB saddle is very comfortable.

Can someone educate me on the purpose of a single speed mountainbike ? I can see how it might be nice in town as a messenger or commuter bike. For typical trail riding, it wouldn't seem practical.

No, that's not the one. This one:

It's full retail price, I think. They also had the flight, but it was $899.

Singlespeeds aren't for everyone. I didn't know if I'd like it or not, but after 4 rides now, I am hooked. I just love the simplicity, reliability, how quiet it is on the trail, and I think it will make me a stronger rider. In the end, it's just one way to go up and down a mountain. Everyone else's tastes will differ. Also, you'd be amazed what you can go up using only one gear. I've done the sit 'n spin thing waaaaay too much.

You may consider a KHS. Maybe this one...http://khsbicycles.com/02_solo-one-se_08.htm

I think it only costs around $570 and comes with disc brakes and adjustable rear dropouts. Pretty sweet deal if you ask me. The bike shop in Brigham (Lovelands Cycle) sells them. Not sure where else to get them in the area though.

Both are a sweet deal. The last single speed 29r I built up was a Surly Karate Monkey....a most excellent bike! That's the same one TreeHugger got for her husband. ( ...i was a bit jeaolus :haha: )

I was just in Guthrie Bikes last week & I thought they carried Redline...cant remember & cant get to my notes from the trip but I'll check if you don't know. The owner is pretty good to deal with.

Thanks for the replies. I was able to pick up a Monocog 29er at a real good price. Too bad snow started to fly this morning... But I am excited for next year's season. I am going to be doing some upgrades during the winter time (headset, maybe brakes (disc), maybe suspension fork) and skiing the rest.
