Yesterday I got "volunteered" to play my guitar at the Roy High "Super Assembly". Every grade level is featuring a guitarist - - SOLO guitarist - - to get up in front of the stadium and compete in the "Guitar Off".

yeah, I said SOLO.

crap.

If anybody plays guitar, you know how difficult it is to make a lone guitar sound good - no singing, no beat, no backing - this is just trying to shred in front of everybody.

I'm sure it will be entertaining, but I would have liked a little more notice.

Yeah, I checked with the A/V guy, he'll have some students filming it.

I'm completely expecting some guitar geniuses from each grade level to blow me out of the water. I requested to go last to see what I'm up against. :haha:

I hope you get to sing too! Then no one will beat you. You should plug your lessons there. :haha:

I just got roped in yesterday, and committed today. ha ha.

I have to admit; I've got a slight advantage. I've been playing for 19 years, and nobody else was even 18 years old. :lol8:

I'll grab the video soon. I just went out there and jammed a bit for a couple of minutes. There were some pretty good kids though. :2thumbs:

Justin did awesome, totally kept his cool. Our geeks came out to his school to cheer him on and record him. I'll give the video to Justin later tonight.

He had pretty good competition as well. The young kids were pretty damn good for how old they were. But no one could beat our own lovable Beech :2thumbs:

Ha, this reminds me of the Seinfeld episode (was on just a couple of days ago) where Kramer is bragging about kicking ass in the Karate class. Turns out all the other students were 9 year olds. The other students ended up calling him out into the alley and ganged up on him. So if you get another invite by the students to go play some night you might want to rethink it. :haha:

Na it was a fair battle, the whole assembly was meant as Faculty versus Students. In all other competitions (there were a ton!) teachers were sucking, then Justin pulled a victory for the old farts.

I'm sorry, I'm looking for actual experience. What have been your positions?

By the way, here's the rest of the guys. A couple of them were VERY good, it just came down to having the right moves. :haha:

This poor sophomore, they got boo'd the whole time by the seniors and juniors, but it really takes guts to stand up there and play solo - and sing.

very cool. Does it seem like the student body is larger than when I was in high school? I don't mean number of students I mean the per pound average.

Yeah, he did very well. He got screwed though, that punk with the microphone cut him off after only a minute.

You don't interrupt somebody's jam. :nono:

He even tried to do that to me when I started into my Blues riff. I just ignored the punk.
