Maybe authorities should investigate under what circumstances the seller became the owner of this item. Perhaps the family of these folks would like to get it back.

That is very strange.

I would imagine though with this being in Utah and Utah probably being the genealogy capital of the world that someone will track down the descendants and hopefully it can be returned home.

Do you have family by these names missing their gravestone???

Carved black granite gravestone --1&1/2 ft x 3 ft x 4 inches.

When we moved into our home we found this great piece of carved stone in our basement --took three guys to move it, turned it over and found out it is a gravestone! Kinda spooky.... I'd LOVE for FAMILY OF THE OWNERS to come and take it to where it belongs, else I'll sell it...(pictures coming soon).

It is free to family of the deceased.

Nellie L. Mar. 25 1879 - Jan 1, 1963

Emanuel A. Jan 7, 1879 - Apr 29 1930

We contacted the Sexton here in Mount Pleasant, he did a search and could not find these people buried here I'm sure they're buried somewhere!

Utah has this real cool database that you can use to find out were people are buried:

Utah Cemetery Burials Database (http://history.utah.gov/apps/burials/execute/searchburials)

A quick look up and I found their entries. If you click on the names you will find a location number. You have to call the cemetery sextant for that cemetery and they will give you a map to find that grave location.

I bet you what happen was the family replaced the headstone of the Allred

You're better at it than I am...I searched for family in the Cannonville cemetery for 'Asay' and found nothing, and I know that name makes up most of that cemetery :ne_nau:

That's strange because this database is pretty accurate. A lot of GENEALOGY* work has been done by volunteers help keep it accurate.

I would check the spelling or make sure that is the right cemetery.

Teen's headstone repossessed over unpaid bill


SPRINGVILLE, Utah (AP) -- The cemetery headstone for a teenager who died in a car wreck was repossessed after a $750 bill went unpaid.

"That's just business," said Linda Anderson of Memorial Art Monument. "If we give every stone to everybody, we'd be out of business. They'd repossess your car if you didn't make payments."

Brady Conger, 17, and two friends died when their car smashed into a sport utility vehicle a year ago Thursday.

Memorial Art said bills sent to one address were returned, and the business couldn't reach Brady's mother, who apparently had agreed last year to pay the balance. "The end result was that there was absolutely no one who I could talk to about this," owner Mike Anderson said.

Brady's classmates raised money to pay the bill, and the headstone will be installed again this week.
