Ever since I started canyoneering in the Robbers Roost area, I had read about a canyon named High Spur. It was supposed to be fun and beautiful but the six-hour drive and 100 miles of dirt road to get to the trailhead made me a little hesitant.
Early this year I was canyoneering with Rick Green in Escalante and he mentioned that he had recently descended High Spur. He had nothing but wonderful things to say about the canyon, even though by most standards the canyon could be considered simple. In light of a possible simple adventure, I gathered a group of both novice and seasoned experience, piled in two cars and headed for the Spur.
The six hours on the road was brutal with several areas requiring a four-wheel drive or high-clearance vehicle operated by the skillful. We didn
