A weed is spreading around Utah, and it's bad news for tires or the bottoms of your shoes.

I was in a weedy lot a week ago, and these spiky, rock-looking things were sticking to the soles of my shoes. It turns out they are seed pods from puncturevine. It's a weed that's spreading rapidly across the Wasatch Front.

Krista Bowers, with the Salt Lake City bicycle collective says they're horrible. "They're all around town on sidewalks, at intersections. It's getting harder and harder. I hate to even admit it, I've got them right in front of our shop. We can't seem to get rid of it," she said.

Biking experts say the weeds are making some trails around Salt Lake County impassable. They can thrash a bike tire, even tires on an ATV.

Scientists say cars are to blame for spreading this stuff around.

When I got back on Saturday from the Jordan River crosstown trail I had 3 of them in me tire. Thankfully I had tire strips :-)

Yeah, I'd blame the wind also.
