Has anyone had any experience with this product?

http://www.lifesaversystems.com/index.html

I've read and saw videos/demos of the product and it sounds too good to be true. I wrote an e-mail to them asking them about our Utahn silty rivers and the response was basically: "Use, rinse and reuse" (again too good to be true).

Has anyone gone to the Outdoor show in SLC and saw this in person? I know they were there....

The unit is supplied with one of these to pre-filter sand/silt:

Pre-filter disc / scavenging sponge
LIFESAVER bottle is supplied with a pre-filter disc. This protects the membranes from objects such as gravel, sand, sticks and mud, prolonging the life of the LIFESAVER cartridge. Your pre-filter disc may also be used as a sponge. Use it to soak up water from those hard to reach areas like cracks in rocks or shallow puddles.

If you do go ahead with a purchase, I think you should obtain some extra pre-filters. When I backpacked the Paria, I met up with some other backpackers whose PUR water filter was clogged after filtering a couple of liters. They did not want to clog up their backup filter, so I played Let's Make A Deal with them since I was using coffee filters as pre-filters on my MSR Mini-Works (which worked like a charm).

On a river I usually let the water sit over night and then filter the clean water with the silt at the bottom. Using coffee filters is a good idea too, never though of that :2thumbs:
