Last weekend my son and I finally did Kings Peak. We got a late start from home on Thursday and did not get to the trailhead until about 5:30 pm. The parking lot was full, but we did find a place to park. We had planned to camp near Dollar Lake, but with the late start we set up camp just past Elkhorn Crossing. We did pass a cow and calf moose on the trail. It was a great place to camp, just off the trail, no one else in sight.
We got up early the next morning and started hiking at 6:30 am. When we got to the Dollar Lake area we were glad we did not stay there. There must have been 50 tents that we could see from the trail. It was pretty crowded, but most were still in their tents when we passed through.
We started to get sun light as we climbed to Gunsite Pass. When we desended into Painter Basin, it was a beautiful area. Green grass and lots of water. From Painter Basin the trail climbed back up to Anderson Pass. So far I thought this wasn
