So my kid learned how to ride a bike 2 days ago and he is loving it now. I was curious if you guys know any good places to take him so I can ride with him. I am looking for a fairly flat area with no cars, something like a park or something.

I live on the east side of SLC, right next to Millcreek canyon, so something close to my location would be nice.

Thanks in advance!

Of course, I'm in O-Town, but I always hear good things about the Jordan River Parkway.

Long, closed to auto trafic, might have to "portage" across a few streats.

I would also recommend the JRP. It's really pretty and lots of nice places to look at ducks and stuff with your kid. It's not on the east side, but worth the drive for what you're looking for. There is an entry on 4700 S, just west of State (on your left), and also on 5400 S. somewhere between Bangerter and I15 (also on your left). Both are nice spots.

Does anyone have a map of that place? Thanks for the recommendations.

Big Cottonwood Park has a bunch of dirt "trails" that wind around througout the park. They are perfectly groomed and may as well be paved for as flat as they are. I run here a lot and there are usually only a few people out walking their dogs. It isn't very long, but you can make it as long as you want. Plus, if your son is still learning he may not want to ride forever anyway. If you look at the map you can see all of the trails winding throughout the trees. It is really peaceful to run on and it would probably be a fun adventure for your son. I wouldn't recommend this to any other adult though.

Kirk, I went and checked out the park last night and oh boy it was awesome! :2thumbs: I was totally thrilled to ride around it with my kid. He had a blast. That's exactly what I was looking for and fairly close to my house.

Thanks a lot for helping me find this place. :five:

You are welcome. I figured he would kind of feel he was out on a trail, but you wouldn't have to worry about him actually being on a trail. I am glad you both enjoyed it.
