Rock climber injured in 20-foot fall
July 13th, 2008 @ 4:38pm

(KSL News) An experienced rock climber fell about 20 feet today in Big Cottonwood Canyon.

Search crews tell us the 60-year-old was climbing on a rock face without ropes in the Dead Snag climbing area. He was looking for another rope anchor when a rock he grabbed onto came loose. The man fell and landed on a ledge, hurting his arm.

Salt Lake County sheriff's officials tell us some other climbers helped him the rest of the way down the mountain, where he was picked up by search and rescue crews.

He was climbing 'without ropes'....and was looking for 'another rope anchor'? :ne_nau:

We drove by the command post. Lots of police and firefighters. And camera crews setting up.

In anther report some where it stated that he had ropes but was not tied in.

And yet last night when I heard it on the news it stated that his anchor blew out of the rock. Gave the impression he was tied in and that the anchor did not hold his weight when the system was weighted.
