My porn collection has taken off exponentially with torrents. :naughty:

I used to get thousands of dollars of software off of torrents until I got a nasty virus - had to do a complete reinstall of my illegal windows and had to find all of my key gen codes to get all of my illegal software to work - what a pain. I decided to try to be a bit more legit from now on, but it is OK to still download porn as nobody ever attaches malicious software to porn. :haha:

HBO's Generation Kill - episode 1

What did you think? Those guys are funny. Serious funny. Generation Kill is my new favorite show. (I know, mini series).
Let me tell you a story (been drinking watch the spelling go to shit).
I was in Baghdad in '03. We were driving down some side road on the west side and all these little school kids were walking home from school and crowding both sides of a small road down what felt like an alley. They were waving and yelling for free stuff and we didn't have anything for them. Pretty soon those little bastards started throwing rocks. Big loud BANG as a rock hit the side of out humvee and, no shit, my boss looks over at me and says The natives are getting restless. Laughed my ass off.

I can't believe your just now seeing Bondock. What a great movie. Anyone else not seen this yet? Go rent it. (Unless your opposed to R ratings for violence, language and some nudity of course). Have you seen Guy Richie's movies? Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch, Revolver and I missed his new one in theaters recently; Rock'n Rolla. I mention Guy because people who liked Boondock Saints will like his movies, usually.
I did research and found Vuze. I really like it. Torrenting used to be kind of a pain in the ass, but this puts everything in one place. Nice.

Underbelly

If you are looking for something good and new to torrent this is the show!

This is the number 1 show in Australia, it's really good and is something of a cross between The Sporano's and The Wire. Only even better, since it's based on true events.

I first caught a glimpse of this show on DirecTV's 101 network. I have watched Season 2 and it's good, next up for me is season 1. I watched the seasons in reverse so they would work out correct in time (and also because I discovered Season 2 before learning there was actually a season 1). Season 2 (Underbelly: A Tale of Two Cities) is really the prequel to the series and deals with the years 1976 and 1987.

Underbelly (the first season) deals with the 1995 - 2004 gangland war in Melbourne.

The series has been given the green light for a third season which will be "Underbelly: The Golden Mile". I have no clue what the third season will deal with.

Me too, best show on TV right now. Lot like Dexter - complex plot, complex relationships, both heros working on the darkside. I watched it for quite a while, and didn't realize that he was from Malcolm in the Middle - great actor.

Breaking Bad and Dexter are without a doubt the two best shows on television....

There are several other great series, but those two are head and shoulders above everything else. If you are looking for some good high quality TV to watch I'll recoomend these:

Breaking Bad
Dexter
The Wire
Soprano's
Underbelly
Son's of Anarchy (first season is great, second was OK).
Spartacus: Blood and Sand (the first episode sucked, but the series was awesome by the end).
Generation Kill

Speaking of Torrent. I've been slacking since the virtual demise of IsoHunt. What search sites are you using?

There is Demonoid, The Pirate Bay, btjunkie, torrentreactor, monova, kickasstorrents, and mininova. There are thousands more, but obviously the most popular ones will have the highest-number of seeders (and highest number of anti-p2p groups watching). Unless you go to a private-torrent site.

Ars Technica just came out with this article: "Hurt Locker torrenters: prepare to get sued" (http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/news/2010/05/hurt-locker-torrenters-prepare-to-be-sued.ars). Be careful. Even with anti-p2p protection software (like Peerguardian), it is still possible to get IP addresses even with encryption (like enabling the "force encryption key" in uTorrent, and unfortunately a few of those encryption keys have already been solved) and obfuscation algorithms.

If they had put that movie into a Utah county theater or even if it had played in SLC for more than a week or two. I would have seen it in theaters. Failing that I didn't wait for the DVD either. :nono2:

Breaking Bad and Dexter are without a doubt the two best shows on television....

There are several other great series, but those two are head and shoulders above everything else. If you are looking for some good high quality TV to watch I'll recoomend these:

Breaking Bad
Dexter
The Wire
Soprano's
Underbelly
Son's of Anarchy (first season is great, second was OK).
Spartacus: Blood and Sand (the first episode sucked, but the series was awesome by the end).
Generation Kill

I'd have to add Rescue Me, Californication, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Entourage.

If I get a letter I already have my reply ready:

Dear Attorneys,

Haven't seen any good movies but I've been watching this show called "Mind Control" with Darren Brown. He is able to forcefully offer suggestions to people, play mind games, and generally screw them over. It's bizaare really how weak and easy people are to manipulate. Here are a couple samples from youtube...

If you are a fan of The Big Bang Theory there are two unaired pilots floating around. The first pilot is a lot different from the actual show. The boys end up with a slutty street smart tramp moving in with them and no Walowith or Truthorpolly (sp?)... the second unaired pilot is pretty close to the actual show... It looks like they took the 2nd unair pilot, tweaked it a little and it became what is now the aired pilot (S01E01). It's interesting to watch the two unaired pilots and watch how the show developed....

Also... She's out of my League and Hot Tub Time Machine are both out and are entertaining if you like that type of comedy.... Hot Tub Time Machine was extra funny to me because I ruled in the 80's. :haha:

If you guys haven't seen "Sherlock" (On the BBC), I HIGHLY recommend seeing it. It's a 3-part (1hr 30min per episode) mini-series, with more shows demanded by the BBC because of it's quality.

The movie that just came out, Sherlock Holmes, it was entertaining - but disappointing due to not staying true to the book in many forms. One example is, in the movie, Sherlock explains everything in the end. In this TV show, Sherlock explains everything (and what he is thinking and seeing) as the show is progressing (as the book would do). MUCH Better.

Seriously, this is quality, entertaining show. And hopefully, the producers will come out with more later on this year.

"How to train your Dragon"

Downloaded it for my son, but he didn't like it and I loved it, weird. Watched it 3x already 9.5/10

"Circue De Freak, The vampires assistant" Or something like that....

1st hour is really really good, then it takes a complete nosedive and ends up sucking ass like the Twilight series. 5.5 / 10

Battlestar Galactica season 3

Wow I cannot get enough of this series it just keeps getting better and better. 9 / 10

Samurai Jack seasons 1-3

Another awesome cartoon I can't get enough of. Someone finally ripped them off the DVD instead of watching the tv versions. 9.5 / 10

Survivor season 21

Meh, this season isn't as good without a mastermind like Russel working the team over and doing dastardly things. 6 / 10

The Princess Bride

Haven't watched it yet to check the quality and sound, but this is one of my all time fav's and I can't wait to watch again, been a couple years since I've seen it.

Off to the library to check out a copy.....

We watched Secretariat last night, it's a good family flick, it's not a real in depth adult movie, but one you can watch with the kids and enjoy. It was kinda special to me because Secretariat was my first introduction into horse racing. I was 12 y/o when Secretariat won the triple crown and I remember it was a really big deal as that big red horse just destroyed the field where ever he raced.

I was in Vegas with my dad when they ran the Belmont and he got the bright idea he would make some major coin by placing a big bet on Secretariat, so we hit up the local sports book and it paid almost nothing for a Secretariat win, if I remember correctly a $2000 bet only paid back $2100 for a win. This is when I first started to understand the mathematics in betting as my dad explained to me that only a fool would risk $2000 at a chance to gain $100. Anyhoo.... fun stuff...

Right now I just burn my completely legal and not coptrighted material directly to a DVD. But I'd like a way to watch the AVI's directly, maybe on one of the new devices out (google tv, Apple TV) has a USB port for a memory stick?

There is a really cool device out called Ruko (http://www.roku.com/roku-products), that can almost do it, except you have to convert the AVI into MP4... if the Ruko could do AVI I would have already bought one. My deal is if I have to convert I might as well just burn to disc.

I think my problem with 127 Hours was I knew the story inside and out so it kinda dragged for me.... that and all the cool movie stuff they toss in to spice up the film was in the trailer.... so there was nothing new for me.

I originally wrote up the story Cheating Death in Bluejohn (http://climb-utah.com/Roost/bluejohn2.htm)not long after the accident and long before Aron's book came out. I did a lot of research for the story so I knew most the details. After the story was posted I received a letter from Aron telling me that out of the hundreds of stories and articles written that mine was the most accurate, that made me feel pretty good.

Oh that is very cool! Yeah I can see your point then.

Looks like I'm off to check out Archer and Due Date :2thumbs:

Buried - 7.5/10 Pretty cool anti war movie. Contractor working in Iraq gets captured and buried in a coffin somewhere in the sand. Somehow he is not buried deep enough that a cell phone works. The terrorists want him to record his experience and send pictures to the media. Surprise ending.

Get him to the Greek - 9/10 - Funny as hell! A record label mgr has to get his drugged out rock and roll singer to his performances on time.

Human Planet - 9.5/10 - Similar to Life, Blue Planet, and such. details amazing people living in amazing places. Here is the trailer and it's amazing in HD. The footage they got is unreal. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2HiUMlOz4UQ

Unthinkable - 7/10 Government catches a terrorist who planted 3 nukes in major cities. They are trying to extract information from him and using outdated torture methods, or are they?

Bizarre Foods Season 6 - 7/10 Show about a guy who goes to different places and eats different types of foods. Pretty fascinating IMO.

Man vs Food - 8/10 Show about a guy who goes to different places and takes food challenges. Eat super hot sushi, a 5 pound grilled cheese sandwich, a 6 pound burrito, ect. I love this show.

The A-Team - 3/10 horrid acting, horrid premise. Was very excited to see quinton rampage jackson, he is one of my favorite UFC fighters, but a complete waste of time in every way.

The Social Network - Tough call on this I would rate it 9/10 but my wife rated it 7/10. The problem is there is no one in the movie to "like". They are all pretty much douchebags. So there is no hero in the movie, it's all villians and hard to cheer them along. But still IMO this is one of the best movies out there and an incredible story, I highly recommend it.

Agora - 5/10 - Movie about religious zealots and wars in roman time. Christians suppressing technology, etc, etc. Slow and boring drama.

The Town - 8/10 Mark Wahlberg (or however you spell it) is a great actor, he never disappoints. Movie about some bank robbers, they take a hostage, he decides to watch hostage so she doesn't "rat" them out and falls in love with her.

Iceaxe
02-02-2011, 09:17 AM
The Town was great. It's a toss up between The Fighter and The Town as to my favorite picture of the year.

Unthinkable sucked... probably because it goes against my core belief that we don't torture, no matter the cost, because that is what makes us better then them.

The Social Network - I really enjoyed the film. I cheered against everyone in the film... kinda like when Norte Dame plays BYU. I cheer for both teams to lose.

Now I'm off to the library to check out a copy of Due Date.

I love fringe! There had been a hole in my soul ever since they stopped xfiles but with fringe I'm whole again!

Modern family and parenthood are pretty good. If you like deadwood, look into some of the other period pieces done by hbo & showtime such as Tudors, carnival and boardwalk. All of them are really good. weeds is good as well as hung and californication(one of my all time favorites)! In general, I really try to stay away from series where the whole cast is "hot and single". It just really puts up a barrier in believing the storyline, so to speak. That's why I love Breaking Bad and such. You're drawn in with the plot and not the attraction to the cast.

I have one word for ya'll....... VUZE (http://www.vuze.com/)

What is it exactly.... how does it differ from a client like utorrent?

Iceaxe
10-28-2011, 10:08 AM
VUZE (http://www.vuze.com/) is pretty much an idiot proof bit-torrent client. Just type in a search and it will find the item, download the item, load the item on your preferred device for viewing (ipod, DVD, apple tv, xbox, yada, yada). Or you can just watch the item directly in Vuze. Its super simple to use and they have worked hard to make it a one stop deal for downloading and viewing, you just need Vuze to use torrents and no other program.

As for utorrent and the others.... I haven't looked at or used any of the other bit-torrent clients since I switched to Vuze a couple years ago. There has been no need as Vuze does everything extremely well.

dmMatrix
10-28-2011, 01:13 PM

I the site I use is invitation only and they prefer utorrent.

The site has no clue what your client is.... you can use whatever client you wish... You download the torrent from the site. Once the torrent is downloaded it is than handled by the client.

But if you are happy with utorrent I'd just stick with it. No need to learn new software that way. If I was new to torrents I'd look hard at Vuze, because the learning curve is short and easy.

Why say the "site" when that narrows it down to like 3 private-only torrent sites. Demonoid perhaps?

Utorrent is great cause it's lightweight and has a remote option (or web u.i.) so you can login from the Internet to your public IP and download and manage torrents from any on-line capable device.

Ha ha, no, I just said "the site" because it just seemed easier to type than "torrent leech" But I ended up typing more.... Oh well.

And Iceaxe, I didn't realize that they wouldn't know which one. Not to mention I had been using Utorrent since my freshman year of highschool so I wasn't worried anyways. But I do have a couple friends just starting to use torrents. I will have to pass vuze along to them :)

I use Peerblock and it's not foolproof. I received my first letter from Cox about a year ago. It came via email the morning after a marathon downloading session. It was legit 'cause it had the episode and time downloaded the night before. Essentially cox had been contacted by NBC that someone at my IP address did it. Then cox had to contact me to protect themselves. Then I got Peerblock and have been using it since. My typical downloading session involves a night or two every other month or so where I get a ton of stuff. I got my 2nd letter a few weeks ago. I've been using Utorrent.

So basically Cox doesn't block sites but if they're contacted then they will cut you off.

Sombeech
11-07-2011, 01:27 PM
And I assume they'll send the email to the address listed on the user account? Because I don't think ANYBODY checks ours.

And I also assume you're only on NBC's naughty list, and not any of the other studios until they track you? So you've kind of got some wiggle room with the other studios until they contact you once?

I've heard Peerblock slows down your connection, is this true in your case?

I'll grab a few single TV episodes here and there right after they air, I've wondered how vigilant the TV corporations are vs the Film industry on tracking this.

Yep it went to my cox email (which I usually never check but I just happened to check it). Not sure if it's just NBC. Doesnt matter though since once you're on Cox's list you're there. So it wouldn't matter if fox or CBS contacted them or whoever as long as they contact them once more I'll be on the 3 strikes and you're out list. SUPPOSEDLY......

Peerblock does not slow my connection at all. At night time I pull over a 500mb a sec in download speed. I think the tv studios are more diligint. Both of my letters came from studios (one for hung and one for parenthood). It's weird cause the email states only one of the items downloaded that night but there may have been 25 parenthood episodes done that night but only one email. Weird.

Yeah I got a notice from my provider as well. They say they will give me up to 5 notices before turning me off but I'm super nervous now too. I gave them the wrong phone number and they could not contact me. So they actually turned off my internet service until I called them, got the warning, and they turned me right back on.

I guess giving out the wrong phone number all the time to avoid telemarketers isn't the best idea. :haha:

Looking for a better solution if anyone has any ideas? I was thinking of setting up a VPN tunnel to an offshore site and then channeling all my traffic through there. But that would kill my phat bandwidth. But I basically need an intermediary before my ISP I think. Because even if i mask my IP addy, the provider always seems to know who I am. Any ideas?????

Thanks for the info on Sherlock.

And yes, I actually meant Qwest. One day I noticed my browser was redirecting to Qwest website telling me to call them. When I did, I was informed that my account is suspended because it was used to download pirated content. When I asked how I can get it reactivated again, I was told to delete all the illegal content. I was also warned that after a third occurence my contract with Qwest would be terminated. I had two strikes. In both instances they forwarded me emails from some California attorney named something Hussein with all kinds of legal text and the titles of "allegedly" downloaded movies, tv shows.

Nope, never received a warning of any type from anyone.

My ISP is a 3rd party that buys line space from Qwest if I understand things correctly. I've had an account with them forever and I'm not even sure if they do this anymore. I think I'm just grandfathered along.

Standard response to any legalize involving torrents is "Thanks for letting me know I had a problem with the security settings on my wireless router".

Maybe even more interesting... I have at least two neighbors with unsecured routers, I could always just download through those connections... :lol8:

The Pirate Bay has made an important change to its infrastructure. The world’s most famous BitTorrent site has switched its entire operation to the cloud. From now on The Pirate Bay will serve its users from several cloud hosting providers scattered around the world. The move will cut costs, ensure better uptime, and make the site virtually invulnerable to police raids — all while keeping user data secure.

The Pirate Bay is loved by millions of file-sharers but is also a thorn in the side of the entertainment industries.

The latter group continues to push authorities to take action against the site. The Pirate Bay was raided back in 2006 and there are rumors that the police might try again in the near future.

The Pirate Bay is not oblivious to this looming threat. They have backups in place and are shielding the true location of their servers. Nevertheless, should the site lose all its servers it might take a while to get back online.

This is one of the reasons why The Pirate Bay decided to move the site into the cloud yesterday. The switch resulted in five minutes downtime and was hardly noticed by the public, but it’s a big change for the infamous BitTorrent site.

Hosting in the cloud also makes the site easier to scale, it reduces downtime, and is also cheaper.

“Moving to the cloud lets TPB move from country to country, crossing borders seamlessly without downtime. All the servers don’t even have to be hosted with the same provider, or even on the same continent,” The Pirate Bay told TorrentFreak.

The Pirate Bay is currently hosted at cloud hosting companies in two countries where they run several Virtual Machine (VM) instances.

“Running on VMs cuts down operation costs and complexity. For example, we never need anyone to do hands-on work like earlier this month when we were down for two days because someone had to fix a broken power distribution unit,” The Pirate Bay says.

The setup also makes it possible for the BitTorrent site to take their business elsewhere without too much hassle.

“If one cloud-provider cuts us off, goes offline or goes bankrupt, we can just buy new virtual servers from the next provider. Then we only have to upload the VM-images and reconfigure the load-balancer to get the site up and running again.”

While most of Pirate Bay’s former servers are now obsolete, not everything was moved to the cloud.

The load balancer and transit-routers are still owned and operated by The Pirate Bay, which allows the site to hide the location of the cloud provider. It also helps to secure the privacy of the site’s users.

The hosting providers have no idea that they’re hosting The Pirate Bay, and even in the event they found out it would be impossible for them to gather data on the users.

“All communication with users goes through TPB’s load balancer, which is a disk-less server with all the configuration in RAM. The load balancer is not in the same country as the transit-router or the cloud servers,” The Pirate Bay told us.

“The communication between the load balancer and the virtual servers is encrypted. So even if a cloud provider found out they’re running TPB, they can’t look at the content of user traffic or user’s IP-addresses.”

In addition The Pirate Bay now believes it’s more raid proof.

The worst case scenario is that The Pirate Bay loses both its transit router and its load balancer. All the important data is backed up externally on VMs that can be re-installed at cloud hosting providers anywhere in the world.

“If the police decide to raid us again there are no servers to take, just a transit router. If they follow the trail to the next country and find the load balancer, there is just a disk-less server there. In case they find out where the cloud provider is, all they can get are encrypted disk-images,” The Pirate Bay says.

“They have to be quick about it too, if the servers have been out of communication with the load balancer for 8 hours they automatically shut down. When the servers are booted up, access is only granted to those who have the encryption password,” they add.

For Pirate Bay users the move to the cloud doesn’t change much though. If anything, they will notice significantly less downtime.

Just finished the first 8 episodes of breaking bad S05

Just watched UFC 153 last night, and afterwards spent the $55 bucks I would've given to DirecTV on groceries. :fitz:

American Horror Story. I'm a huge fan of horror and each show is like an hour long horror flick. Pretty awesome. Also picked up the latest seasons of Downton Abbey, Breaking Bad, True Blood, Hell on Wheels, and Weeds. Might have to stop playing Halo to get through it all...

Might be my favorite thread :D Thanks Iceaxe for recommendations.

Over the weekend I saw This is 40, Looper and Flight. I downloaded the other films but I'm yet to watch them. I am wondering whether I should see The Hobbit at the theater instead of on my PC.

I seldom watch movies on my PC because the picture is never as good (And my PC has a new state of the art 30" monitor). I always burn the movies to DVD or put them on a zip drive so the family can watch them at their leisure.

I also gain anther HUGE bonus from the movies.... we are out of town most weekends and we NEVER have an issue finding a house sitter. We have a couple people we use for house sitting and they know I'll always have a stack of great movies form them to watch .

Thank God for screener season because Tv during the holidays blows....

Anyhoo.... I downloaded and watched "Gravity" last night. It's been a long time since I enjoyed a movie as much as I enjoyed Gravity.
Most movies now days have so many plot holes I can't stand to watch them. Gravity only had a couple plot holes and they take an understanding of orbital mechanics to uncover.

I'm giving Gravity five stars. I bet it wins big on the award circuit.

That's one movie I was super glad I saw on the big screen. It was such an amazing visual spectacle I doubt the TV could have done it justice. I was so blown away watching some of those scenes! Def an amazing movie either way though. :)

Have you tried 1channel on XBMC? Just run an HDMI cable between your computer and TV and you have every movie or TV show ever made at your finger tips. No need to torrent and burn, just press a couple buttons and start playing it in seconds. Not a good demo video, but you get the idea.

No, unfortunately I don't really. I'm still a bit new to anything beyond putting the now archaic DVD in the machine. So, download XBMC and then it has an option on it called "Channel 1" and once that it selected a gazillion TV and movie options are available??

Pretty much yeah... Just install XBMC on your computer, then follow this 5 minute setup guide. Then you will have every movie and every TV show ever made at your finger tips. It works shockingly good and is free.

Edit: Let me know if you have any troubles. It's a little tricky your 1st time through, Might take 10 minutes instead of 5 :)

It's also pretty easy to set up the amazon fire stick with TVMC. I ran TVMC on the tablet and sent it the chromecast and haven't had to torrent anything in over a year since doing it this way. Way easier and you can find almost everything. Now with the fire stick it's even easier. I prefer Genesis over 1Channel. If you use the chromecast or firestick ($40) then you just plug it into the HDMI port on your TV and you're good to go with any movie or tv show you can imagine!

Nobody torrents anymore. Why do that? You can stream everything, in better quality, any time you want with TVMC. Plus you avoid the whole download/own it thing. I think it's a bit more legally ambiguous to stream than to download as well. If you actually want to have a drive somewhere full of movie files than I think torrenting still makes sense but now the only time i still download something is if I'm flying somewhere and want a usb stick full of material or if I'm going to be somewhere without WIFI for awhile.

Gotta love screener season.... I watched Concussion, Creed and The Revenant, all are excellent. Will Smith will probably win a bunch of shit for Concussion.

I have Joy, Spotlight, Hateful Eight, The Martion, Steve Jobs and Heart of the Sea for later in the week.

The kids have the cam version of Star Wars which is a pretty good copy for a cam that came out two days after the release. The kids saw the movie opening day at the theater but have since watched the cam half a dozen times.

I can't get my torrent files to work anymore. I used to use bitcomet but I have stopped because it won't finish my downloads. They get to 90% then they just stop. What are you cool kids using these days? Have torrents fallen out of fashion? Is there something better out there?
