Has anybody been to the top of Timp yet this year? I was wondering if it is clear enough for the average joe to climb it yet. I don't mind a little snow, but don't have the gear for a full out glacier climb.

No. Last weekend my brother put on a triathlon at Deer Creek/Soldier Hollow & looking at the peak there is still a lot of snow up there. I'd bring ice axe and crampons for a summit attempt any time soon.

I was on the Pfeifferhorn last Saturday, tons of snow left up there in the drainages. We took axes and crampons and needed them early in the morning.
I suspect Timp is good up to the basin and then from there up to the ridges would be much safer with at least an ice axe.

Thanks. It looks like I'll wait a little longer.

A pic from yesterday, the road has no snow near it but plenty still on the way to the peak. There was a lot of snow looking up from Timpanookee and Aspen Grove BEFORE you hit the high meadows halfway up. Waterfalls falling everywhere though. The snow is melting at about 2.5 inches per day (probably a little slower on north facing slopes), so as long as the 90 degree temps stay it will disappear fast.

Here is a picture I took yesterday from the top of Box Elder Peak. It looks like there is still a lot of snow in the upper meadows.
I was planning on trying on July 4th, but I guess I will wait for a few more weeks.
