Show off your work. Let us know what you think about the circus freaks that decide to ink up their bodies. Or have something you are working on? Let's hear about it.

I edited my first post in here just so I can put all my tattoo pics together. It's finally DONE! My peacocks! I'm having a hard time getting pics of it by myself when the lighting is funny in my house this morning. I do love it and thought I was done........but a trip to Denver is in my near future and it's hard not to stop by Twistedsol.com and see my girl there for a little sumthin sumthin. I swear it's gotta be worse than crack!! This tattoo obsession. :lol8:

I started getting tattoos when I was 15 (22 years ago). Had a wierd attraction to them at a very young age (as long as I could remember). I have a weird obsession with decorating everything around me. I love anything ORNATE. So it kind of filtered into what I have on my body to this day. My first tattoo was done at one of the 3 tattoo shops back in Houston very early on......before the fad. Now there's over 100's of shops and artists on every corner. I'm proud and in love with body art. I bought my dad his first tattoo for his 60th bday against my mothers wishes.

I don't have a tattoo, but I do have an a**hole magnet on my forehead.....at least I figure I must have because that's what most men that I attract turn out to be! :ne_nau: I really need to see a specialist about getting that thing removed!

Back on track...I have none. Almost had a few but never went through with it. I'm glad I didn't. I think if I had, I would have a full sleeve right now, flaming death skulls and all. Thats the only problem I have with them. I work with kids in a behavioral health unit. Not the best place to be walking around with a full sleeve.

Nothing wrong with a full sleeve of flaming skulls. :ne_nau: I work on snotty, rich, Aspen women all day long and my paycheck depends on them. I don't hesitate showing off my work and they still spend. HAHA!!! :haha: :2thumbs:

While I don't have any tats (yet), I really am tired of seeing the big butterflys (that will later turn into gigantic vultures) on the lower back of ladies. That's not classy at all, IMHO.

I've often considered some form of military tat on my bicep, but the wife really doesn't like the idea.

Oh, and Abirken, why does your name now show "***JACKASS***" under it?

Like I said somewhere earlier, I've been thinking about a tatoo for a while. I need to find someone who will design it for me. I once almost decided to get one back in Mexico but wife said :nono:

Yup, you are right. It does show Jackass. I know the person responsible for doing that.........................Boy when I get a hold of him! It's not even going to be funny. :lol8: (I think I'm semi-responsible for the change) OK now back to Mountain Betty!

As far as tattoos go, the butterfly on the lower back AKA The Venus is just a fad with tattoos. Just like 'tribal art' was really hot at one point. Get something that means alot to you and you can't go wrong. :2thumbs:

You need to drive over to Denver, go to www.twistedsol.com to pick out your artist, have something drawn up and go celebrate by drinking at a Local Pub called Streets of London. For me, whether I like the way they look on another person depends on the whole personal package.

Randi,

I agree! I love a person no matter thier hair color, body weight, career choice, personal style.........if they are a genuine person, looks don't matter to me. The whole package is HUGE! More people just think that way.

Funny b/c my grandmother who is now 81 expressed an interest in getting a little butterfly on her back and claims she wishes she would have done it when she was younger. And as far as my two boys go (13 and 4) they've learned to not judge someone b/c they have body art (as both my husband and I have alot) BUT we hold the same rule in our house. Nothing on the body until the age of 18 so don't even ask. At that point, they are adults and can make that decison. I won't be one of those parents down at the tattoo shop signing a waiver for them at 15. :nono:

I came pretty close to getting one at 20 yrs old. It was going to be a menacing looking octopus on my calf with tentacles wrapping around my leg. Problem was it cost 2k and that was a little difficult to come up with at the time.

So I've never had a tat, but find them extremely sexy on ladies. Suicide girls rock!! As long as it's not something stupid like a butterfly on the center back, or that tribal art. It has to be unique and designed by the person.

"Marking up my body permanently, it has to be something good...not a fad"

Could not agree more.
With that said, I have 27 tattoos.
Everyone has some sort of meaning to it. The kids names, the keltic knots work on the wrist, the bear on the calf, the lizards, the sun... I pick out a bit o'ink, then think about it for a while, if I still want it six months down the road, I get it. and I never get it just because I saw it and liked it, all of mine ate customs, none came off the wall in some flash gallery.
Now I have 27... if you count them as seen it looks like 13, working on a sleeve on each arm, the chest and stomach are started, back is bear, one calf is started, I once started my uhhhh pee pee.
I will warn you about this.
DO NOT!
you have to have a stiffy the entire time its inked, and it hurts more than anything you can imagine.
the first prick (no pun!) of the needle and it was gone, and after that each time I heard the gun come on it went slack, so I have a single dot of ink on my pecker.

OH MY! :eek2: I have no comment on the penis tattoo. HAHA!! But I agree......I get an idea, think about it for a while and if it's still with me after several months, I get it. My tattoos represent the things I love. Flowers, hearts, girly stuff b/c I am a girlie girl with a twist of tomboy. I am starting my upper sleeve next week. My artist drew up something that fit me PERFECT and I'm going with it. YAY! :2thumbs: But after I finish with my upper arm, I think I am done for good. I'm getting TOO OLD. HAHA!

I started the ink at 15 with a mirror, a guitar string and some india ink....
Those ones are now covered up! Im 37 now, I started all of it that long ago and still not done, they have to be special, not just cool looking. Have to have meaning behind them, and I have to like them. there are many I wanted and never got because they didnt fit in, they didnt work the way I wanted them to, I changed my mind, what ever.
Im not ina hurry to be wearing a tattoo shirt, I got my whole life to do it.
All but 1 were thought out (after the india ink years between 15 and 18) a scarab with knot work in its back on my shoulder. I went to the bar a few years back, when I got off work at noon for 3 days, I woke up in wyoming with no truck. called a friend got home, found my truck at another bar, went home took a shower and thats when I found the new ink! when the hot water hit it. went to the front room to watch TV and suffer a hang over and my car pool was honking outside, ti had been 12 hours from the first day plus 3 days plus 10 more hours for my car pool to show up to go to work that I had drank away, thought it was just the next day :D its one of the reasons I dont drink much these days.
We will not even go into the 2 girls I woke up with that were less than appealing. Told them I was going for smokes and would be back...I hit a gas station and called my buddy, never went back :D it was walking looking for a gas station or pay phone that I realized I was in Evanston and not just the avenues above salt lake city.
That was my last trip to Southern Exposure in murray.

NO!
go stick a needle in your weenie. Iv broken all my fingers many times, my wrist a few times a ankle and ribs over and over, my skull twice, my nose 3 my jaw once, fell 2 floors at work, would of gone 6 to the ground but got stuck on a piece of half inch rebar that was ticking out..in my thight, went nice and deep, that was after I hit a handrail and fell from it breaking the leg. I was up that night on crutches at the jazz game (final game in jazz vs bulls in the days of old for the title! I was not missing htat game!) and Id rather repeat any of those than stick a needle in mr winky!

To answer the original question, I don't have any and I don't like most of them I see on other folks. I suppose it is due to the stigma of tattoos during my formative years. The way I look at it, coon skin caps were a popular fad when I was a kid. I'm really glad now that they were not a permanent addition.

I do not have a tat, but I know what I want, and when I go back to Dublin, I'm going to get it.

Otherwise, ever since I was 5 years old, I have always wanted a long stem red rose on the pad of my right thumb. I have no idea why. As a kid, I would draw the flower on my thumb with colored pens when I was bored in class. I might do it someday.

I really liked the tribal art and I had a henna done to see if I liked it. I hated it after the third day...........I always suggest a good henna tat before making the commitment.

I've got one, on my left bicep. I'm into Native American stuff, and I particularly like the Pacific Northwest Indian artwork.

Mine is a Haida sun. I planned on getting it filled in at that time I had the work done (10 years ago), but the more time passed after the ink was done, I liked the unfilled details more and more. Never got it finished, nor do I plan to.

I'd like to get another one, same type of artwork, but on the front of my leg/shin area. My problem is now that I'm a father, all of my income goes towards suppoting my family. Very little extra money for ink these days.

I've got a photo of my tat floating around home somewhere. Maybe I'll post it when and if I find it.

For years I wanted a polynesian tat somewhere...a honu...turtle, or a variation of Samoan tribal tats but I'm not so sure now. actually, I watched it done the 'island' way and I could do a smallish one but not a full body tat. I knew a guy once who was a chieftans' son who had a full body chieftans tat...most awesome tat I ever saw. I, in case no one has figured it out yet, have a great love for the islands. Having lived on Maui and going back there nearly every year since I feel deep ties there so a tat with a polynesian theme would fit right in. The chainring embedded in the calf would symbolize my next greastest love of biking. It has changed/saved my life...literally.

Obviously, I am into the real thing.....real ink being inserted into my dermal layer of skin. So my idea started several months ago with peacocks, flowers and hearts (I'm kinda girly). My friend (tattoo artist), she drew up something for me and after tweeking it a little bit here and there, we started it last night. This will most likely be my last piece since, I hope. It's NOT DONE so this is just a sneak peek at the outline. I couldn't get a good pic of it without the flash so the flash created a glare on my arm. To be more detailed, I will have swirly red hearts (similar to the ones on my shoulders) surrounding this portrait. The peacocks will be peacock blue, greens and yellows. Not everyone will like it, but I LOVE IT and if you know me......it totally fits me. :2thumbs:

Oh and this pic is seriously me, rolling right out of bed, peeling off the gauze, no coffee yet.....bed head. So no derogatory comments please. HAHA!!

Thank you! My goal is to have it colored in to look very similar to a stained glass piece. Not too much shading. More straightforward color. I'll keep the thread updated as I get it worked on. Hopefully only one sitting for color, but possibly two. Dependent on how much I can take! But have to wait two weeks for this to heal. :2thumbs:

Funny. My mom would never let my dad get a tattoo and he wanted one so bad. So for his 60th birthday, my brother and I convinced her to let him. He got one! Now she loves it. I think she thinks he's a bad boy now. HAHA!!

First off, the correct term is "ink slinger" second off, if she was really good, there is a fortune to be made doing tats.
The guy I like to use the best, and has done alot of work on me, runs 125 an hour, and he is booked all the time, you cant walk in off the street and have him do any needle work on ya, you are going to need an appointment. He has his own shop, and leases rooms in it to other artists and then gets a percentage of what they make as well.
I dunno what Joe makes on a yearly scale, but he does pretty damned alright for himself. He also takes alot of time helping you and does custom work, drew alot of my stuff by hand and redrew it several times to get it to look like what I wanted, and he didnt charge me for that part of it, just for the actual inking.
You may actually want to encourage your daughter to become an ink slinger.
My nephew can draw anything, but he cant get it in the skin. Does some flash work on the side but wont do the ink.

BTW, I reread this before clicking submit, and i come off as an asshole I think, that wasnt my intention, it wasnt meant to be derogative, just contributing to the conversation, dont take it as me policing the tattoo thread or correcting you, it wasnt meant that way, but its hard to convey attitude in writing rather than in person.

Thanks. I'll tell her. She really is quite the artist, and she pulls these amazing things outta her head to draw too. I can only draw if I have something to look at and copy. You sound like a fine parent encouraging your son's creativity! :2thumbs: Some of the worst parents (to me) are the ones that try to live through their kids to the extend that they expect the kid to live out some dream they (the parents) never realized. One of those phenomenons, how Japanese stuff got popular here and kids across the nation got into the anime, card games (pokemon), etc. Japanese cartoons became all the rage, what about 7 years ago?

My daughter and I got way into this show called Bleach, before it became popular here in the US & they homogenized it for American viewers.

Bummer about the cartoons is that the Japanese versions of most (with subtitles) are so much better than the "made for America" versions.

I LOVE Japanese (and Korean) films. And I like a bunch of the Anime too. Miyazaki's Spirited Away is a VERY cool movie if you haven't seen it.

My son dates a Japanese girl and he speaks the language. Rachael looks up to him a lot, loved some of the Japanese bands he introduced her to and that's where her love of the culture came in."

Ill tell you what Iv been playing with the idea of getting inked for several years now.
a toe tag that says DOA.
It makes me laugh to think about the guy that preps me for cremation to find it. The tag on the bottom of my foot and the string around my big toe, I think its great!
The only reason I have not yet done it is because there is no good time to do it.
in summer I wear sandals most of the time Im not working, and at work its boots. In winter its always boots, when the hell could I get ink done on the bottom of my foot to make it the least inconvenient situation possible?

I really like tattoos, especially ones that tell stories. My wife and I both have tats, and want more. My mother-in-law got one of Eeyore on her ankle at the age of 60! This is my favorite one. I don't have any tattoos but my oldest son will on Monday- but this is doctors orders! His cancer has come back so next week he will start radiation therapy. Monday he gets 'mapped'. They build a 3-D computer image of his abdomen with the exact spot of the tumor, then they will tattoo him with small dots so they can align the radiation machine exactly every time. These tattoo dots will be permanent but are very small. He will have treatments every weekday for nearly a month. Here we go again!

Wow, so sorry to hear this. Best wishes to you and your son.

I hardly feel it's appropriate to go back to light hearted tattoo stuff now... yikes. But maybe it will be a good distraction...

Here's mine: The mountains represent my spirit/spirituality, the clouds and sunrise represent the dawn of a new and beautiful day, even through some rough times, the moon and star is representative of my brother who was killed in a car crash when I was 18 (there's a story why that reps him). Now I want to get a butterfly (the metamorphosis) with a yin/yang body, puzzle piece wings, with one piece missing.... that is representative of who I have become today - balanced, different pieces of my life making up who I am, and a piece missing because there is always room for more growth. Probably WAY more than you needed to know, but I feel I have to explain my tat because it is so personal to me.

Sorry, didn't mean to break up the lighthearted thread. As a family that doesn't do the tattoo thing (but doesn't begrudge anyone that does) it will be a good family joke! My son's name is Ryan and he will be 24 next month. He still lives at home- nearly got married last summer then all of this broke loose. Good kid, served an LDS mission to Mexico, finished up at UVU, got accepted into BYU's engineering program for last fall but had to drop out after he was diagnosed. He's registered again for this fall so we're hoping he still can go after a couple months rest. Thanks for your concerns. Now get back to the lighthearted stuff- I need a good laugh after the last few days of life.

Blues and reds are done. Next we work on the greens and yellows and it will be done. YAY! My girl couldn't work more than an hour last night so we didn't get TOO much accomplished. One more sitting when this heals and then a touch up two weeks after and it will be done. YAY! Then I can start working on my two small coverups on my back, then I will officially be DONE. I did post it back at the beginning of this thread, but in case you missed it, will include it here. I also am including my dance picture for those of you that missed it, because it shows my tattoo 'in action'. haha!! ALSO.........my fabulous tattoo artist friend painted a portrait of me for my 37th bday and I thought it'd fit into this thread very well. :2thumbs:

Cool - I just found this thread (haven't been online much in the past month)!

I love well-done tats. I only have one at this time, but I may get more in the future. I don't have a pic of it at the moment.

Background: I ran track and X-country in high school. Back then ('80's) tats weren't mainstream, but I thought they were cool. I used to say that if I ever got one, it would be a wing on my ankle to symbolize my dedication to running and being swift of foot, like Mercury . I earned a varsity letter in track as a miler, so I guess that was apropos .

In '01, for my 35th birthday, I finally had it done. I figured if the idea still had appeal after nearly 20 years, it was a keeper. I went to an awesome artist in Flagstaff, AZ - Patrick - of Blue Fish Tattoo, and told him my idea: a bird's wing, slightly windblown, and feminine. I just wanted it simple black, no color. The design he came up with was totally perfect and original. It took 30 min. and cost me $60, and it also required an appointment. I loffs it still! It is on the outside of my right ankle, and reminds me that I am a runner. Unfortunately, since moving to CT, I've almost given up running because being outside here sucks about 85% of the year, but I will resume it when we return back to the Chosen Land of the southwest in 2 years.

The other tattoos I've contemplated getting are:

1) a Gemini glyph - not super original, I suppose, but any astrological description I read of geminis describes me to a "T" - the good, bad and ugly.

2) an ankle band of my favorite horizon profile of the Grand Canyon, also shaded in black. I would like it to have Zoaraster and Brahma temples, and Vishnu in there, if possible. The Grand Canyon is my favorite place on this planet to be (with southern Utah coming in a close second :2thumbs: ), and I have a strong spiritual connection with it. Having it permanently inked on my body is something I'd never regret.

3) The White Horse of Uffington:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uffington_White_Horse

It is a bronze-age depiction of a stylized equine figure and getting a tat of it would represent my lifelong love of horses and as an equine artist.

If there was a way to have a temporary tattoo of the state of CT with a red circle/slash over it, I'd do that :lol8:. This state sux.

Alison - love your tats, BTW! :five:

At bike camp this weekend one of the instructors had a tatoo I LOVED!!!

I really liked her snowflakes. The lady who does her tatoo's does little dots. This makes the snowflakes look more delicate I think. Anyway one step closer in my quest for the perfect tatoo. I just might get one yet.

That's the addictive area. Once the grey area is inked, you can't resist getting more, again in the grey area.

Luckily for all of us, these guys never bother with all of that "responsibility" and stuff.
