Finished with Poison Spring for the day, we headed over to the Robbers Roost area for an afternoon hike down Little White. Temperatures were still pretty good, the mild breeze keeping things just right. Upper LW alternates between short slotty sections and open washes. Eventually it slots up into some really nice narrows and finishes up with a great rappel down to the edge of a large pool. From there the hike heads down to the main fork of Robbers Roost, up to the left or West Fork of White and up the old horse trail back to the ridge.
The upper main Roost and the left White Fork is an amazing place this time of year. Spring fed pools up and down the canyon were teaming with life. One pool swarmed with sun fish and an unidentified silver banded black fish. Tree frogs were singing and toads were making the noise they make. Deer, grouse, turkey, rodent, lizard, and other unidentifiable tracks littered the pool sides. Intermittent lion tracks were scattered by the pools and in sandy bottoms of the narrows. We spotted an eagle, hawk and an owl up the canyon. This place is one of my favorites. :2thumbs:
