I am writing this little bit for two reasons. First of all, I have to thank someone that I don't even know for helping me out on Saturday out in the Robbers Roost area. For whatever reason, I refuse to believe my decadent little red jetta VR6 is not an off road vehicle. Her name is the Scarlot Harlot (my car). Second of all, by writing this, I am solidifying the truth. That my little Scarlot Harlot just isn't doing the job anymore and it makes me sad.

Anyhow...long story short (alot of other details I won't go into). Mommys weekend with her boys turned into quite the adventure. We planned on camping out at Granary Springs (where the blue john canyons all merge into one), hiking one of the forks that day and then doing Horseshoe Canyon yesterday. The road to the area is quite sandy with alot of potential for highcentering your car (my car) b/c of low clearance. So what did I do? You got it! I got my car stuck in the sand. DURP!

After sitting for two hours at noon, with no shade and my kids cranky, we see some folks coming out of East Fork after a very long hike. THEY WERE MY ANGELS THAT DAY!! Not only did they get their 4-runner (I'm buying a Toyota next month folks) and get my car UNSTUCK, but they saved my weekend with my kids.

Best part! They log onto Bogley regularly. :)

I offered them all the cash I had to go buy a nice dinner/lunch on the way out and they refused. If anything these guys seriously earned a lot of Karma bucks. THANK YOU GUYS IF YOU LOG IN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And sorry I didn't pick up your names. I was running a little high on adrenaline at that point. THANK YOU ThANK YOU!       :hail2thechief: :hail2thechief: :hail2thechief: :hail2thechief: :hail2thechief:

It's nice to experience the kindness of complete strangers from time to time.

Me self I got into a little rear-end collision on Saturday morning. My fault, heh. The good thing is that rear ended an old van driven by a guy name Ricardo who wasn't eager to get the cops involved. At first he pretended as if I didn't smash into his behind so I pulled over next to him and asked him to pull into the parking lot. He didn't speak much English but we decided that it's best that we just go our seperate ways, heh. Poor fellow probably was an illegal and/or didn't have a proper driver's license and/or insurance. Anyway, in about an hour I am going to drop my car off at Guadalupe's Glass and Repair or Redwood. Guadalupe said he'd charge me only about $80 to put the bumper back in place. All I can say, viva la Mexico!

stuck on tthe road to granary springs? not only is that poor jetta not an off road vehicle it apparently isn't an off pavement vehicle. :haha:

glad you got out ok. stuck out without shade this time of year can be rough. cranky kids suck too. don't forget to carry lots of water on these adventures you get into.

good choice on the toyota. i really love my 4 runner. had it out last week above bullhead doing some stuff it wasn't designed for. it made it but did end up with my running boards messed up.

heres a couple pic's of the 4 wheelin and one of my 4 runner in rescue mode pulling a colorado mountaiin college (leadville campus) van stuck in a wash coming out of the top of sheiks canyon (cedar mesa).

btw 100+ the last 3 days in bullhead and looks like another today. 80 at 7am.

Denali!!! That's AWESOME! thanks for posting. Looks like you had a blast. Found two used Four runners in my price range and going to test drive this week. :2thumbs:

Yea my little car ROCKS on the hwy.....screaming at a 100 with no issue. It's definately meant for the Autobahn and not sandy roads. The road to granary was a lot more sandy that I remember last year??? Is that possible? Oh well. Oh and by the way, this is the 3rd time I've ripped off the bumper. HAHA!! My poor repair guys think I'm crazy. They know when I call, it's not good. I told them to just keep in stock my bumper. HAHA!!!!
So yea, third times a charm since insurance doesn't pick up the repair. THE TIME IS HERE TO BUY A NEW VEHICLE for moi!! Good riddance to my Scarlot Harlot. :lol8:

I moved this thread to "canyoneering". Not all canyoneers visit the general section, but most stop by the canyoneering section, at least occasionally to lurk.

I figure you have a better chance of your thank you being here.....

I don't think I'll ever own just a car, just not practicable for my needs.

Then those extreme areas

Don't feel too bad. The 4-wheel drive isn't the best on Trusty (the Geo) either.

You know what though? At least we are optimists........."sure I own a low clearance, no 4 wheel drive vehicle! That sand isn't going to hold me back from desert play. Hell no!"

HAHA!!!!! That photo of your geo is OH TOO FAMILIAR. :roflol:

Yah, I was following a guy in a Pathfinder that was going kinda slow. We were headed out to ride Sovergn when I got stuck. The gas company was repairing a line out that way and had really churned up the sand. I got stuck driving in, but I didn't have any problem getting back out. That's the difference between 20mph and 50mph.

Glad someone came along to help out. I pulled a guy out over the Winter that had been stuck in a snow bank over night, temp was 9 F. He was glad to see my Jeep.

We're heading out Wed afternoon for Escalante and then the Swell for a couple of days. Taking the Jeep, just for those occasions. If anyone is going to be in the area my plan is to hike Horseshoe Canyon Friday AM and a bit of Little Wildhorse on Sat before heading back.

We'll be in this:

I ended up finding someones Fuji 1 G memory card and totally forgot to leave it up at the top in the box. Wonder what I should do with it? Maybe post in the lost and found section of a few local newspapers? Hmmmmm......sorry to get off track, but was just reflecting back on yesterdays hike. GREAT TIME THOUGH!! Enjoy it out there. :2thumbs:

I was down there on Saturday and I remember seeing you. I thought, I hope she doesn't get stuck... You must have gotten stuck minutes after I saw you...

Good luck on getting the Toyota! I love my 4runner. Get one with an e-locker in it!!!

Crazy that it's such a small world and 6 degrees of separation. I hope you had a great time where ever you were going!!! Sounds like either you were heading towards Hans Flat or back towards the highway? Did you do anything fun while out there?

Yeah, we were heading to the highway. We did Larry Canyon on Friday and we were heading home. It was a blast!
