Thought I'd post this here as well, since there's some who are interested in Nutty Putty, but don't frequent the caving section much.

I have an update from the timp grotto meeting last night. The grotto has submitted a management plan about a month ago, and they're waiting for the School & Trust people to approve it. Once that's done, they can start allowing people in the cave again.

The School & Trust has kind of a itchy trigger finger when it comes to closing off the cave permanently. So we want to be on our best behavior when out there so we don't give them a reason to do so.

Let people back in with out a permit? Basically how it used to be in the past?

I hear ya. It seems we're always losing access (or at least free access) to all sorts of cool places (canyons, caves etc). But the school & trust (who own the land) would just as soon close the cave off than have to deal with it. They would have done that by now, but the grotto has tried to convince them to give at least some access. Some access, even if it's not as good as it was before, is better than nothing. They've already closed up some of the other caves out there. I can totally understand the frustration at have access limited. I hate it when canyons or caves are closed off to me. :frustrated: But let's not give them an excuse to limit it further.

Huh? I was just up at Nutty Putty about 2 weeks ago. What prevents folks from getting in there? It's not grated, covered or otherwise blocked.

Picture is of my 10 year old just poking around the entrance

Based on the information above, it would appear that land is privately held, yet there aren't any signs or otherwise indicating such (to those of us that just poke around while ATV'ing, hiking or exploring and not cavers/spelunkers.

The only signage in that area refers to the property to the West of Nutty Putty..

You must have been in a different cave, not Nutty Putty? Here's the pic of the gate

As I understand it from other's I met (out there), there are 2 or 3 entrances to Nutty Putty. The one we found (supposedly) was on the top of the hill immediately South of Little Moab.

The location where we were told the (or A) entrance to Nutty Putty is approx:

40 05.51.01 N 112 02.14.71 W, which places it about 1100 feet North/West of what Jumar provided as coords.
