Getting ready to move down to the St. George area in two weeks and wanted to get some opinions from those of you who are already down there.

What cable/satelltie/internet company do you use and are you satisfied, etc...?

Also trying to find the best pricing/packages available.

qwest for phone and internet works great.... but my ISP won't let me buy a static IP. but o well.

baja broadband for cable sucks donkey balls. too many old movie channels but they did take one away and put FuelTV but they switched it back a month later. and fitTV still has very low sound, but i don't care about that channel.

From what I've seen comcast isn't available down there....

So aside from Baja, what are the other options? Any for cable? Or should I look more into Dish Network, etc.

ya no comcast... i would say dish or direct TV is your best bet.

I'm outside St George. I have Baja Broadband for the Internet, I need a static IP. We have Dish for TV and are pretty satisfied with it. Quast for the phone, no problems.

Baja broadband is the worst company you'll ever deal with, hands down. Don't get those guys you'll be really sorry!

They were good back when they were Comcast, but then they changed to Orange broadband, not so good, and now they changed to Baja and they are pitiful. I was without internet service for about 3 weeks once. Good thing my neighbor only had WPA encryption on his wireless network, hehe.

Anyways, for internet, I recommend either qwest or Infowest. I actually work at Infowest, so if you need technical help you'd be chatting with me :) If you are tech saavy go with Qwest since they are cheaper. If you aren't so tech saavy, go with us. We'll help you with any computer related problem which is nice if you get stuck setting up wireless networks, driver issues, installing printers, whatever. So even though we do cost more, our customers love being able to get help on tech stuff. If you call qwest and tell them you're having trouble with a printer, the guy from india you are talking to will say "FU" and hang up. (infowest.com) So just gotta decide if you want cheaper or better customer service.

Then for cable I would say go with either DISH or Direct TV. Skywest is nice if you are a religious type and want to make sure your kids are protected. Basic cable even comes with the BYU network, woohoo! but they are more expensive and the service is a point to point network via microwave antenna, not so reliable IMO. Baja is the worst company on the planet, whatever you choose, don't get them.

I personally feel the Direct TV is a better deal right now, but the DVR programming on DISH network is the best I've even seen. So they are both great companies IMO. If you're into HD channels, Direct TV has way more. If you're into having the most channels for the lowest price DISH is $10 cheaper.

The only thing I would caution on is the installation techs for both companies suck. One ass drilled a hole right in my living room wall about 14 inches off the ground, even though I had prewired, preterminated, and extensively labeled everything in my network closet. He's lucky i wasn't home at the time or I would have wrung his little neck! If you can, just install it yourself, but again, not sure how tech saavy you are so might not be a good idea. It's a little tricky.

And I'll just mention, the other company I work for (yeah I work a lot of jobs) specializes in helping people move. Just go to http://www.allconnect.com/ and they will set everything up for free. Well, you will have to pay for whoever you end up with, but our service is free. Compare rates (like Dish and DTV here http://tinyurl.com/627b7f ) and all that good stuff. They will also give you a cool moving package that has insane coupons in it. Stuff like 10% off ANY purchase from Lowes (max limit is 10k), cause I know you need a new fridge and patio set right? Turns out there is fierce competition for "movers" and people spend a lot of money during this transistion. So retailers are really willing to bend over and win you as a customer. And again it's free, so that's nice.

I'm starting to sound like a commercial now, so will STFU. Good luck to ya!
:haha:

A commercial? Ok, maybe, but a well time and placed commercial. I really appreciate all the input!

So far I'm striking out. Qwest says they don't offer broadband at the address, and baja isn't sure. After the reviews on here I don't want baja, but so far they may be the only one.

Ok, not true, infowest wireless also appears to be a possibility...

Their website has gotten a little difficult to navigate over time, but check out BroadbandReports.com at

http://www.dslreports.com/

You can get a list of providers for your zip code and address as well as their performance reports.

haha...I saw that all the time. Well St. George is like the new Malibu....we have to get use to it. But the most expensive home as of last year was only $5 million....so they got a long way to go.

ENTER TANGENT:
and think of when the old airport is bye bye and all the land on top of the mesa is for commerical and residential use. Weird. That will drastically change the landscape...geeez...as if they are not doing enough damage already....

I posted before but I want to say something about Baja. I live out of the city and have a much bigger problem with power than Internet. I rely on Baja for my connection and work out of my house. I don't think I've lost more than a few hours in three years. They are pretty attentive and I've have only had one issue but they were still Charter at that time.

I live out in Ivins, and I had Infowest for 6 years waiting on DSL. Never came. A few months back I researched options. They told me to get wireless. The Churches dang tree was in the way of the antennae so Wireless was out. I called Sky-View Technologies and they are the ones that own the antennae ant they explained that they had recently installed a new antennae out on the Utah Hills ant that they could provide service to me! Yee Haw! Anyway, they offered 3 packages. I bought the in-between package that costs about 30$ a month and honestly it seems to be as fast as the DSL that we have here at work...almost!

I live in the boonies and I am very limited on what I can get. I have Direct TV and have been limited to dial-up until about 2 years ago. I buddies wife is a sells manager for Baja, I have talked with him about service and he said to go with someone else.

I agree with that. Each receiver needs to be connected directly to the dish. The installers don't care how it gets into the house. They came out to redo my dish when we got a second receiver, and although I had plates where the TVs were, he ran the cable out of the wall and right to the box. So I have a cable coming out of the square hole behind the TV. One more place for mice to get in. I have heard of dish network chopping up their cable so that it can't be used when they remove their boxes and dish when changing to some one else.

After as much research as I cared to do I went with Skywire

Skywireusa.com

So far so good.
