Hi all,
Feels a little like a dating site, heh, but at least it's free. I moved to Utah about a year ago from New York and I'm looking to find some folks to go hiking, camping, fishing with. Hopefully, I will find you here ;-)

Welcome :2thumbs:

If you live in the SLC area you have it made. There are lots of members here that do that kind of thing there.

Why does this seem like a dating site? We are very undatable around here! :haha:

Hi Tanya. Feels like it because you have to say a few words about yourself, heh. I'm glad I found this place.

If you love the outdoors or even like them and want to know more about them, you have come in to your own. This site rocks, and I think you will love it!

In short: Welcome!

Thanks for the warm welcome. What I love about Utah is that even though half way to Causey reservoir I realized I forgot my fishing license, I was still able to pick a random hill and just head up ;-) I don't know the name of the hill but it was near Browns Hole. I walked from Boots Campground across Highway 39 and just started going up ;-) Nearly ruined my shoes though. Next time I'm gonna stick to trails.

Woohoo finally we get another foreigner in here, now I don't have to catch all the crap about my accent :haha: You do speak with an accent right? :nono:

JK bud, welcome to the site. Hope you find what you are looking for here. A lot of times we post invites to different outings (hiking, backpacking, canyoneering, etc) so keep a look out for it. :five:

Thanks, Alex. I'd like to think I have a Brooklyn accent since I spent 15 years of my life there but fuggettaboutit! Yeah, I got an accent but folks in Utah are too nice to point it out too often, heh. You're not that French physical therapist at St. Mark's, are you?

Alex

How dare you call me French! heh

Russian/Ukrainian, born and raised. :2thumbs:

Well then we're brother Slavs, heh. How the hell did you end up here? No offense Utes but it is a pretty remote place for Eastern Europeans. Alex, do you ever shop at European Tastees? Moskievskaya rocks. And good pickles, of course. Thanks again for warm welcome and I will keep an eye out for invites.

Where from New York?

No, I really don't. My mom goes to all these Russian stores around town, but my wife converted me to a homemade american food.

Thanks guys. This site is really what I've been looking for. I have to head to Moab to do some hiking one of those weekends. Before it gets too hot. After reading about Kings Peak, Mt. Nebo seems like a one day trip. I'd love to do both but at least with Kings Peak it would suck sitting in a tent all alone, heh. Also, can't wait till some of the snow melts on the Wasatch front.

Quite a big one JP ;-) I was shocked whenever I went to a gas station to get some coffee and realized that they don't do milk just creams ;-) Also there's no seltzer at gas stations, heh. What's up with that? Anyway, there's always Starbucks. Guys my employer blocked off my web-based emails today, ehh. And that's not all, they blocked off my other favorite forum. They're very sneaky.

When did PolishHiker become KapitanSparrow?

There is a huge difference between here and there. HUGE :haha: But, life seems so much better with the ability to move and not see civilization in every direction :haha: I thought I had it bad here, I could never live in NYC  Too much packed into such a little spot

I like the character of Captain Sparrow and my last name translated in to English is something like Sparrowski, heh, hence I came up with KapitanSparrow. Plus it's my gmail address.

Agreed, JP. The thought of spending another hot, humid, concrete side-walk baking summer in New York solidified my decision to move last June. Plus instead of spending 2 - 2.5 hours on commute every day, it only takes me 10 - 15 minutes to get to work here ;-) That's 2+ hours of freeking nap time ;-)

Well, congratulations on your move. I know will be looking in moving out of here, I thought I had about ten years left, but that may have just changed. We'll have to see.

Oh by the way...............VELCOME to VOGLEY. That was my interpretation of my pretend European accent. :lol8: Went to NYC for my first time, stayed in Brooklyn. Loved it!!! But very, very, very crowded. I missed my wide open space after a weekend in the city. VELCOME to the VESTERN states.

Even at night that's an understatement :frustrated:

Tzanks verrrry much, heh. Whenever I'm asked where I'm from I say New York. Whenever I'm asked what accent I have, I say Brooklyn. I spent half of my life in the U.S. but you can't hide your roots, heh.

Abirken where did you stay in Brooklyn? Did you see Williamsburg? I remember it when it was still a quiet neighborhood, before all these weird folks moved in, heh. There was a cool punk bar on North 6th called Sweet Water Tavern, with cheap alcohol (i think a pitcher of Guiness was $12), broken chairs, wobbly tables, jukebox with loud music (Ace of Spades and such, heh), pool table in the back room. We played soccer with some crazy Argentinians to the sounds of "ole, ole, ole, ole", and in the summer, cockroaches would roam free under the tables, heh. That was our great watering hole and the last holdout. Now it's a classy restaurant with wine and crap. This sucks.

I am QUEEN of seedy punk rock bars........those are my roots. :) Didn't go to any while in NYC, which I was kinda bummed about. I ended up hanging out with my lesbian friends so of course they took me to all the gay bars. Ate some AWESOME Argentinian food in Brooklyn. WAS SOOOOOOO GOOD!!! HAHA!! But I've been into some awesome hole in the wall places in Houston, Austin, London, Denver, Chicago.......when I walk in and hear Motorhead or Dead Kennedys playing, then I feel at home and ready to throw down some beers!!

So true my dear!! But let me tell ya, I've witnessed a girl/girl arguement with those two before. MEOW!!!! HISS HISS!!! RARRRR!! Was pretty scarey stuff. Over all though, one of the happiest couples I've seen when they aren't PMS at the same time. :2thumbs:
