For those of you who drink martinis, I have something to share. I recently tried a gin/vodka martini and it is one of the best drinks I've ever had. For a few years, I've enjoyed the basic martini, which is Bombay Sapphire gin, a dash of Vermouth, and three olives. Shaken, no rocks, straight up. That's my drink.
(Well, Knob Creek straight out of the bottle is my drink, but we're talking civilized here.)
On a recent bidness trip, I found a recipe for the gin/vodka martini in the in-flight magazine. Sounded so stupid -- an aboimination -- I had to try it. Well, my fellow drunkards, this is one smooth concoction.
Here's the deal:
2 oz. POTATO Vodka (not grain Voka -- very important)
1 oz. gin (Bombay Sapphire would be my suggestion)
1 oz. vermouth (more or less, depending on taste)
Place these ingredients in an ice filled shaker and have an epileptic fit.
Garnish with whatever. The recipe called for a lemon twist, but I used olives. Pickled okra makes a good one, too.
Has anyone else tried this?
Anyone have advice on potato vodka? That's terra incognita for me, so what are the good ones?
Anyhow, try it. I expect field reports and reviews. Now GET BUSY!
WARNING: Martinis are like boobies, one is not enough and three are too many.
