I did an operating system reinstall about a month ago. Everything is as good as ever with one exception: My video now gives me a negative image. In Windows Media Player, & VLC I get a weird negative image (of which I could not even take a screen shot), but in Nero or Divx Player it looks fine.
I obviously can just use Divx or Nero, but I am looking to understand how to fix this, and for the sake of learning I would rather not do an additional OSRI.

first i would say reinstall your video drivers then direct x. and if that don't fix it look at this:
not sure if this is your problem
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/898549/en-us
are you sure you don't have any of the video settings messed up in the player?

What a perfect time for a new monitor :naughty: Say Apple's 30 inch cinema display

I am using XP. I have the most recent driver for my system. The monitor is only a couple of months old, and it worked fine before I reinstalled my OS, so I know this is a software issue. I have tried to reinstall WMP and I have tried to adjust the settings but I can not find anything.
It works fine with other media players, just not my main ones.

umm.. WMP10 or WMP11. or maybe an older version.
if it's not 11 i'd say upgrade/update it and see what that does...
if that don't help then do what i do. seach google and see what others with the same problem have done.
i wish you luck. :2thumbs:

I thought you were referring to XP.
WMP11.
I have tried to do a search for this, but can not find much. I know people on this site can probably figure it out, but I seem to be at a loss.

o crap im an idiot. i didn't think about codecs.
what type of videos are you playing in WMP .avi or DVD(vob)
if it's an avi. then you may need some codecs. i think if i remember right i had this problem but my video was fliped 180 degrees, and sometimes i only had sound.
so update your codec pack.

I have tried a couple of different codec packs. And I still get the same negative image.

Try opening the video through Windows Movie Maker, see if it looks the same.
Then take a snapshot of a frame, and post it here.

Your screen is reversed. Peel it off, then stick it back down on the other side.

Thanks Rev!
Beech-
Movie maker did allow a screen shot, but the screen shot looked perfectly normal.
This is the screen shot:

But it looks more like these two combined:

Again, in some video players it looks fine, and in others it looks awful.

:D
If I can't get this resolved, that is the route I will probably end up going.
