Well, we've been trying to install a forum modification for a few weeks now, it hasn't been easy. It was going to display the newest ACTIVE member at the bottom of the main forum page. (not just the newest registered user, which is often a spammer, but a real person that signed up)

But we've done a bunch of stuff to the basic template, making it difficult to find some code.... so this mod will sit on the shelf a bit and make room for some different mods to be programmed.

Anyways, I thought I'd list the new members within the last month that have joined our forum, since we never got that mod going.

Some of these people have posted already, some have just signed in and are a little shy. Then, some may log in again next month on the next newsletter, hopefully they'll make a post in the newbies section.

I'm thinking of adding to the list as they join. :2thumbs:

How do we determine they aren't spammers? Well... we're usually about 98% sure, but spammers almost ALWAYS tag a website to their profile, but sometimes the legit do too. So then, it's location. If it's USA or just a country name, usually a spammer. Then, if no country is listed, I look at the hobbies and such.

So there is a chance I'm missing a couple of legit people here and there, as we know there are a couple of people from Germany.... but it's just luck of the draw.

So anyways, probably 10 of these users have posted already, hopefully the rest will come, or at least watch us make fools of ourselves. :lol8:

Be sure to welcome them when they sign on.

i'm a mod/tech support for wildsurvive and i modded the .htaccess file and added a list of ips know asto spam bots and spammers. and the number of views went down but it stoped most of the fake accounts.

well i usually just check the ips... our main problem at wildsurvive.com is the RIPE server. mostly all spammers.

You can only see the newest member at the bottom, but this doesn't show you the others within the same day that I just activated.

I think I activated 5 today. :2thumbs:

they're not approved. I personally look through the members and approve them if they don't look like a spammer.

So when I signed up a week ago, I could of been pronounced dead and gone based on my email address or hobbies?
I guess I got lucky and slipped in cos I am heavy into porn! but mostly just my own, and she said no cameras so I guess I cant share with you guys!
As to how many will stick?
Ill be one of them, IV been peering around the site, looking at profiles and what not, I may well be able to have some RL friends made from here instead of just people I shoot the sheet with online!
BTW, the name? Im a climber, gravity is the enemy, but as you all will soon be finding out, My name is Chance, No need to refer to me by the forum name, if ya do, half the time I wont know your talking to, or about me.
I suppose I need to take a few minutes and locate a suitable picture on my computer to use as an avatar, and some shining wisdom to use for a signature, maybe tonight when Im on my computer with my pics Ill get some time to do just that, and think up some wonderful tip for living life well for a signature :blahblah:

We're still having a decent stream of new members joining up, at least a couple every day. :afro:

We've put in some new measures to eliminate spam bots from registering, and it's been working great. :2thumbs: Instead of the text/image recognition, we just moved to a simple question that would take human logic to answer.

So now my next move is to start deleting a lot of those spam accounts in mass so our numbers will be more accurate.
