Me and a few others are going to try to get a walk-in permit for the Wave next Friday or Saturday.

If we get the permit the plan is to spend part of the day at the Wave and then the rest of the day going down Wire Pass to Buckskin Gulch.

If we are unable to get permits, we will just spend more time in Buckskin.

Does anyone have suggestions for the second day. We will want to work our way north as we need to be back Saturday night. My first thought is to go north on Cottonwood Rd and hit Hackberry, Cottonwood Canyon and Round Valley Draw. Does that sound like too much for one day? I guess we will just use what time we have.

Any other suggestions? If Cottonwood road is in bad shape we will head back up hwy 89. Nothing technical, but any good canyons or sites to see.

Thanks

You could check out South Coyote Buttes as well as other things in the Paria Canyon/Vermillion Cliffs area.

One you could do if the Staircase Roads are bad and also a favorite of mine for this time of year before it gets hot is the Wahweap Hoodoos.

Cottonwood Canyon and Round Valley Draw did not thrill me a lot, but they are okay. I really liked Hackberry though.

More stuff in that area...

When you pick up your Wave permit you might be able to obtain info as to the condition of the Cottonwood Wash Rd.

About 15 miles up Cottonwood from 89 to reach Hackberry TH. You could hike up Hackberry a bit or climb out of the canyon on a trail to Yellow Rock or do one of several possible loops on existing trails. I believe Tanya/Bo's site details one involving Yellow Rock, Paria River, and Cottonwood Wash.
