I have long since gotten rid of my factory image hard drive. I just did an OSRI and I have reinstalled all my applications and pictures. Does anyone know of a way to create my own sort of factory image hard drive to do a PC restore at a later point to exactly how I have it now? I know I can back up my PC, but what I am really looking to do is have some sort of partition (or just a way) to be able to restore my PC to factory image, that I create now.



Have any of you heard of anything like that?

There are lots of products on the market that do what you are talking about. Here at work we use a product called ShadowProtect - very clean, easy to use and fast! (I've also used DriveImage Pro, Ghost, and ImageBlaster in the past, but I prefer Shawdow Protect)

There's Norton Ghost, though file compression is horrible. A while back, Symantec purchased Go Back from Wildfire. In my experience, it's a better software for what you're wanting. File compression is excellent and you don't have to store a second drive to use it. The program start after POST but before Windows. To activate it, all you need to do is press the spacebar when prompted. I've never had the restore points corrupted though used the software for years.
