The 23rd annual Bryce Canyon Winter Festival is Feb. 16-18 . There is plenty of snow this year for the archery biathlon event, 10K free technique cross-country ski race and snowshoe tours. A variety of other clinics also will be offered, as will ranger-guided snowshoe hikes and geology and astronomy presentations.

I know that based on Bruce's photos there was a ton of snow down there a week and a half ago. Did it stick around? I am looking at going down there tomorrow morning from SLC and wanted to know about how much snow was still around. I love how the snow sticks to every layer on all the formations but I realize that if the sun has been out, most of that would melt and the only snow would be on the canyon floor. I am mostly interested in the photography of it but we would also snowshoe or hike (if hardpacked) both tomorrow and Sunday.

Does anyone have any recent conditions of Bryce right now?

Was just at Bryce over the weekend. Plenty of snow still. 3+ feet of snow in the sun at the rim and up to my waist on the Peek-a-Boo trail at the bottom (not recommended for hiking right now). Ski trails around Ruby's were in great shape, but I do wish they'd learn that grooming in the middle of the day is the worst time to groom.
