My wife is scheduled to be induced tomorrow. Today the doc said she should be all set for tomorrow. This is our third. We have two boys (5 & 2) and are thrilled to have a girl this time. I'll give updates as I have them. Boy do those delivery rooms make me nauseous. :ghost:

Congratulations in advance! Little girls are so special to daddies!

My wife was induced for the second (our girl). It was incredible - the doctor applied the gel, and went home for dinner - it was supposed to take a couple of hours or so. 20 minutes later, he had to be called back, and almost missed the whole thing! She was more than ready to come out!

Hope all goes smoothly - keep us posted when you can!

Never heard of a gel application but if they introduce the Pitocin drip into the IV hold on to your hat because within minuets she will be contacting hard. If she is getting an epidural make sure she gets it at the same time as the Pitocin or before.. Assuming she wants an epidural....

Good luck and congrats... hope every goes smooth....

I'm not sure if I should congratulate you or feel sorry for you! Every child you add to your clan seems to add to the workload times 10!

Anyway! Best of luck and best wishes!

2 boys and now a little girl! Guess who's going to be spoiled? :haha:

Congratulations to you and your wife! :2thumbs: We just found out the next addition to our clan is going to be another girl. Seems like that's all we get is girls! My poor Dad........he came from an all boy family, his brothers all had sons and he had all girls. When my youngest sister was born, there were 31 babies in the nursery - all boys except her. I think my Dad tried to bribe someone to switch babies. :haha:

Nicely done. :2thumbs: Actually, that goes to your wife. Your part was relatively easy. I found that the Lamas method really works. I didn't feel a thing. Girls are great. There is nothing like have your little girl run up to you when you come home from work shouting "Daddy!" 3 girls and one boy for me and my wife. Randi is right, kids are the best.

Thanks for all the well wishes. I just picked up my two boys and got back home after a long night and day at the hospital.

Unfortunately the baby had to go into the (NICU)
intensive care unit at about 3:30 am. She was having a hard time breathing through her nose. We really started noticing this when my wife was breast feeding her for the first time. It sounded like she had a cold and was stuffed up. You know how little kids sound when they get sick. The nurses tried to clear her nose out, but it was not helping. A nurse then tried to put tubes through her nostrils and admit her/check her out like they do. This is when they started to suspect that something was wrong with her nostril cavities. They could not get a tube through one of the nostrils.

What they found was that the nostril cavities developed quite small, not normal. Hence the heavy breathing. It is called, "congenital nasal pyriform aperture stenosis." She has been in the NICU ever since. Since babies and young children are nose breathers, this poses a big problem. They have an oxygen head box on her right now and are monitoring her breathing. We are now waiting for her to be transported to primary children's medical center sometime soon. She will be examined again by a specialist and probably have to go into surgery to correct the nasal problems.

This is a relatively rare congenital birth defect. Our first two boys did not have problems and both came home on the second or third day. They both were a little jaundice and had to be under the billy lights at home for a few days. But that is all that we have experienced. Only parents and grandparents can see the baby in NICU. Which makes it tough on the rest of my family, especially my wife. She is used to taking the baby home right away, keeping it in the room, etc, etc and she had brought an outfit for her to the hospital. Makes you really appreciate your kids and how precious life is. It is very difficult to see your own under these conditions. Well, my eyes are burning, going to get some shut eye.

The wife keeps asking for pictures. I told her you were kinda busy and would get them up as soon as you could. It's too bad that she has these problems but lucky for us we have Primary Childrens here in Salt Lake. It's one of the best childrens hospital in the nation. (And I'm an employee so I'm kinda biased) Hope everything turns out ok and I'm excited to see baby Kate. :2thumbs:

Oh, and I asked some of the nurses who work up in the NICU, and they said it's unfortunate that she has to be there but it's a pretty simple procedure and she is in the best hands.

This is the exact same thing that happened to my son 2 months ago when he was born. They (nicu staff) could not get the tube to pass on the right side. though he was passing more than enough air from the left to not cause huge worry..ie not problems eating, sleeping.

them trying only made the swelling worse which aggravated the breathing even more. Those were scary times, my heart goes out to you and your family.

So, you're back around (probably for a few minutes) - got surgery scheduled or anything? Has the specialist been to see Kate?

One thing I've learned since inventing the internets: You're never the only one. You'll always find someone else who's been through the same (or very similar) thing. For me, it was the tear duct on my left eye. Had to have it surgically repaired when I was tiny. Funny thing - my younger brother (we're both adopted and NOT related) had the same thing. In the same eye. Not a threat to health or anything, but unusual.

I'm sure it'll all go well. Keep us posted!

I picked up Mom today. Baby Kate is doing much better, but must remain in NICU for now. The doc says she might be able to come home in a day or two, if she keeps improving. We would then be scheduled for a consultation with the specialist (forget the name). She is off the head box and no more IV. Mom has been feeding her every 3 hours and is sending milk for tonight. We are hoping that she can come home soon. My wife was happy to get outta there, but very sad to leave the baby. We ate lunch at the cheesecake factory after I picked her up and brought some home too. Trying to keep her mind on other things.

Update

Baby Kate started to improve over the last few days and we were hopeful that she might be able to come home. She was breathing ok on her own and feeding fine. Even though she still sounds stuffy, due to the narrow nasal passages. Unfortunately they found a few other problems yesterday that made them not comfortable sending her home. They transported her to PCMC this morning and we have been up there all day. They noticed that her irises are keyhole shape instead of round, kind of oval. They are looking at this and many other things related to her nose that could be associated with certain syndromes. They have been running lots of tests today and we should know much more tomorrow. It is a real rollercoaster ride. They have been testing everything that you could think of. It just rips your heart out seeing what the babies are dealing with in the NICU at PCMC.

Update. . .

She is still at PCMC. We have been driving up everyday to see her. She has been improving everyday and there is a chance that we will be able to bring her home tomorrow. She has been passing all their tests with flying colors. Including an MRI, two CT scans, echocardiogram, ophthalmology exam, ultrasound of kidneys and bladder. Probably a few others that I cant think of. We will have to wait a week or two for the results of the blood test. This will give us some final answers and could explain her keyhole shaped eyes. We are very excited to bring her home, our two boys will get a first look at her after 10 days. She will have to be indoors and away from all possible sicknesses for the rest of the winter. We are going to really have to referee when family come to see her and especially our boys. If she gets sick, it could put her in the hospital very quickly. Not just RSV, but clogging up her narrow nasal passages.

Written on Thursday night:

Baby Kate started having trouble breathing this afternoon. It was getting much worse by the time I got home. Her nose seemed to get plugged up more and more. Last night was also really tough and not much sleep happened for mom, dad and kate. She really started retracting and making us nervous tonight. We rushed her to the night clinic around 6:30. Where she was sent by ambulance back to primary children's. We have been in the ER for several hours now. She will be admitted here tonight and I assume they are going to have to look at her nose again.

Today:

We sat in an ER room until 2AM on Friday morning waiting for them to find us a room. The ER and the whole hospital was packed and still is. We both crashed on recliner type chairs until the doctors came in around 9. Baby Kate was doing okay with some oxygen and having her hooked to the monitors made us much more comfortable. In the end they decided to do surgery on her nose. They took her in on Friday night and put stents (tubes) in her nose. Prior to this they tested her for RSV and some other viruses. I don

I put my iPhone in her crib and turn on the Beach Boys. They really settle her down.
