Just returned from making my first video with my new ultra cool schwing ding helmet camera setup.

This is in Quartzite AZ where it is a balmy 70+ degrees. My folks winter down there and this was my first trip to visit. Quartzite has some great riding. Dripping springs is one of very few year round springs in the area and has been visited by every man and beast in the desert for centuries. Lots of petroglyphs and an old rock cabin.

It you are interested in the camera it is the V.I.O. POV.1, all digital waterproof. I really like it, after a day of riding in the dust I just washed it off.
Lots of info here: http://www.atvutah.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1197832875

I looked at literally everything I could find along these lines.
99% of it is crap, don't waste your money.

Archos = crap
motocom = crap
Oregon Scientific = crap

If you are planning to do video outdoors this is the real deal.

As for the other units here is what I know.

If it has a spinning disk it won't survive.
If it does not have a screen to monitor the video, you will shoot crap.
If claims to record 640x480 30fps Mpeg4 and it does not give you the bit rate its probably crap.
If you can't figure out exactly which encoder is being used its probably crap.
There are lots of mpeg4 crap encoders.
If its not waterproof, its not dust or dirt/mud proof either.
If it has more than one wire, its going to be a PIA to deal with in the field.
If it uses multiple battery types its going to make you nuts.

I expect to get a lot more video with this system than my old setup.

Very good quality, nice video.

What's the bit rate on yours?

I just checked out the Teton Gravity Research forums, and those boys are using these things, and pumping out amazing stuff. I'm nearly sold on it... Now JUST GIVE ME A WIDEANGLE!

Need to throw that setup on a snowmobile. :nod:

The best bit rate is 3100Kbps. But the real value is that they use a decent encoder. The Oregon Scientific claims to encode over 4000Kbps but there encoder is crap so the video is crap.

VIO says they will have a wider angle soon. I heard this month but who knows.

Accadacca I don't own a sled. But I plan to get the RZR out in fluff in the few days.

If you want one I'd buy it now. Gary has them on sale for about $50 less than anywhere else at ATVUtah.com. I think it was a Christmas promotion so it will go back up soon I imagine.
