Best of 2007 Canyoneering Pictures :2thumbs:

The rules.... only one picture per post and no more then 5 pictures from any one person. The pictures must have been taken in 2007. The pictures do not have to be yours, but proper photo credit must be given and you must have permission to post the photo if they are not yours. Anything larger then 800x600 will be deleted.

I'll start this baby off with one of my favorite 2007 shots. This is a picture of "The Kid" in High Spur, not sure who took the picture 9Snatch?) but it was with my camera.

:five:

First off, Buckskin Gulch, back in March. My favourite little alcove shot. I have this in a 12x18 on the wall. It just takes me to a very happy, content place.

It is a fantasy for women because their arousal is at least 85% emotional. Though size most certainly helps ;) the waterfall fantasy taps the emotional circuits of passion, lust, romance, even danger, which are more powerful than anything you can physically do.

Hence why women's fantasies generally consist of a whole detailed scenario...

While guy's fantasies generally consist of - whatever the girl was standing next to when you first saw her, she's bent over it.... and she's lovin it!! :lol8:

Could it be? The thread has finally gotten back on topic? I still don't have a still camera so I can't submit my favorites, but if I could they would probably be from Mexico. Someone asked if Mexico is really all that? Ohhh yea, it's really all that!

Here is my favorite video of 2007 (although it's probably long and boring for most, unless you were on the trip)

http://utoutdoors.blogspot.com/2007/11/canyoneering-mexico.html

My other favorite was my first real betaless scout, to full descent (not knowing Ryan and Mike Kelsey had finished it earlier) what Ryan calls Witches Cauldron on his Outdoor Zen site.

Yes sir... a really cool/strange log dam built on Crescent Creek. Part of the relics from the 1950's uranium boom.

More pictures and a short history on the area is here if you are interested.

http://climb-utah.com/Powell/crescent.htm

This is a fun place to visit, even if you are not a hardcore canyoneer. With a little work hikers can visit the log dam without needing tech skills.

Nice pic, except...
... June 2006???
... Hard head does not require a helmet???
... Lovely bright blue webbing????

Took some bolts out in that canyon, about that time.

Tom

That webbing looks purple to me. Which one of us is colorblind?!?!

Did you take the bolts out because of their placement not being bomber? Is it an ethics thing like in the roost/swell or bad placement thing in Zion de-botificationing? Are bolts taken out alot in Zion?

if the CHP keeps issuing citations for infractions involving equipment, i may have to get "visitors" helmets.

Don't blame us for the webbing; it was already there :ne_nau: It would seem to me to be a waste of resources to replace it simply due to psychadelic colors.

YMMV. Me, I think it worth changing out bright, un-natural colors with natural colors (except if I'm cold, which I usually am in Boundary). Carry some black or tan to do this with (which you probably do anyway).

I thought I took them out in 2006, so maybe they re-appeared. I did not descend Boundary in 2007 - I'll put it on my list for 2008.

In Boundary, several sets of new bolts appeared. I took out the new ones. All were next to easy-to-use natural anchors (note log visible in photo). There were also older bolts in the canyon (generally also in places where natural anchors were available), but I left those in place. New, good bolts to back up old, bad bolts I consider acceptable.

These specific sets of bolts were not exceptionally well-placed, but not exceptionally poorly placed either. They were removed as they did not contribute to safety in the canyon, and were not necessary. YMMV.

I respect your (or anyone's) right to place bolts as you choose. Please respect my right to remove them as I choose.

I have probably placed more bolts in Utah for canyoneering than anyone else (in the last 10 years). I believe bolts are appropriate where they improve the safety and minimize environmental impacts in canyons. I do not believe that they should be placed where they are not necessary or helpful (ie, casually, or 'as a matter of course'). Thus, when I find bolts that do not contribute to the community, I remove them. I seem to not have a problem making decisions (thus, the name: The Emperor).

I have also probably removed more bolts than anyone else (in the last 10 years). In particular, I have a long term project to remove almost all the bolts from The Squeeze, over the next 10 years.

Utah in general has some VERY interesting rock formations. VERY GENDER SPECIFIC if you ask me. Good old mother nature was a little X-rated when she formed Utah.

My momma always told me I'm 'head strong' so I'm guessing I came out head first. Get this! I think I even had my head lamp on through this whole experience. Yup I was a head first kind of girl. :roflol:
