My favorite gift was some custom molded (iPlugz) ear phones/plugs to wear under my motorcycle helmet. I have to go in and have my ears molded first, then the molds will be sent off. They are supposed to really block out wind noise and sound amazing.

I counted my blessings that I live in a free nation, I have food on the table, I and my loved ones are healthy, and for a roof overhead.

I wonder what the single mother of five living in the slums in Bolivia got for Christmas? Or the 23-yr-old laborer dying of AIDS in Nigeria got for Christmas? Or how about the 8-yr-old diagnosed with Leukemia in Russia...what did she get for Christmas?

BTW, I love my Mountain Hardwear Epic Jacket. It almost breathes too well and screams to be taken out on late spring hikes.

I myself received one to many hints that it's my turn to play host for Thanksgiving in 2008. Let's see: a chafing dish, a replacement for the toaster oven that failed six weeks ago, foodsaver vacuum sealer, turkey lifter, flavor injector, a stuffing holder whatchamacallit, etc. Oh yeah, and a shirt.

I need it all with the wild dinner parties I throw, but no, it wasn't exactly what I wanted. Maybe when Ms. M and Ms. K get back in town. :naughty:

Please teach us how we can be as good of a person as you are. Just because we got stuff for Christmas doesn't mean we are bad people. I assume that you didn't get anything for Christmas. Also that you didn't get anyone in your family anything. That seriously came out of nowhere.

Careful with that thing. My experience is that it is fast with skinny ropes and hard to control the friction. I just heard of a new way to hook it up but still, it is slick and fast with canyoneering ropes. I won't use it on long raps. It is cool looking and easy to use for water disconnects. After all the stuff I have tried, I am still a Petzl Piranha and Black Diamond XP believer. :2thumbs:

All I'm sayin is......this time of year we all like to PROFESS peace on earth, good will towards men. The whole basis of this Christian holiday is in service and charity --- but then the day after Christmas the first words out of our mouths are: "Hey look at all my great toys!!"

You gotta admit -- hypocrisy and gluttony run rampant this time of year, whether you or I or anyone else wants to admit it.

I requested, and got, the entire set of Discovery Channel's "Planet Earth". Not able to see it on Discovery as we rarely have cable TV while we travel. I figure it will be a good record of life on earth before GW destroys it. A few other goodies. Not much I wanted or needed, since I always go for instant gratification, buying what I want right away.

We could start a thread about what we gave away this Christmas to people outside our family. I personally don't feel comfortable bragging about how much money I gave away to people that I don't know. What I did for particular families and how much that totals. This topic is about light hearted holiday chatter. It is quite foolish to assume that everyone on this forum only cares about themselves and they have not given to those in need this season. Especially when you don't know most of them. Would it be better if people came on and said, "I gave so and so $1,000" and I feel great. Happy holidays! Yeah right.

Back to your regular scheduled programming:

I am in LEGO HELL! It seems that every year we buy several different Lego sets. Then we end up getting really into putting them together. The worst part is searching high and low for a particular piece and trying to keep the kids out of the way. :haha: Then the second you get a small city or Army tank put together your kids destroy everything. Gotta love it. :lol8: Can anyone relate?

My family sent some money to a small island in the South Pacific where my brother is. It provided Christmas for 12 families.

noted. The guy at Mountain Works showed me a pretty cool way to rig it up. You make a loop in the rope before you put it around the silver round thing. Then you can go over the top or just out the bottom. I will draw an illustration later I have a little rap station that I used it on in my garage. It was sweet. Of course its only 10 ft high. The big problem I could see with the way he showed me was that the rope rubs against itself, that could be very bad.

disclaimer: This is a lame drawing for illustration purposes only. I am no artist and it is quite obvious.

I drew 2 different colored ropes. You would use both ropes the same this just let me show 2 different ways on one picture.
In my garage I was rappelling off double (Imlay 9mm) and doing setup #2 and I was holding myself up without much effort. I didn't have a backpack on.

I'm liking my record player/recorder thingy. The first one my boys wanted me to do up was Rush 2112...imported audiophile disc from Holland...supreme shape. Wow...did it turn out good! :2thumbs:
...and no, no one is to find out just how much time and money went out of my pocket to help others this time of year, like any other time of the year...isnt that the whole point of service and giving? Are you really serving your fellow men if it's just this time of year? Do you really have the light of Christ in your heart if you just let it come out to exercise during christmas? Ok. I'll get off it now :soapbox:
