I am redoing my house and replacing windows. I got a couple of quotes from big names such as Champion and Pella. Champion came out to be a lot more, now I am confused if they are worth the higher price than the competitor.

I have 3 windows already installed by Champion 4 years ago and like them so far, but I am doing a lot bigger job now and much bigger chunk of change.

Anyone knows more about this field than me? Should I spend more cash and go with the bigger player (Champion) or window is a window and go with a better price? Any suggestion? I need to make up my mind tonight pretty much due to construction start and kitchen remodel.

Thanks guys.

This is my old field of expertise, I just dont have the contacts I used to down there but check with Amsco Windows. They sell vinyl and aluminum framed - Id go with vinyl - the technology has advanced so well that the insulation value is amazing...and the price is very reasonable. They are on about 900W and 2100S...at least the factory is. If they cant sell em to you direct they will give you the location of the nearest dealer. Peachtree Windows & Doors are another great brand, but the only dealer I remember is in Midvale just north of Hillcrest High School. I was factory trained and certified by both companies and have more than a decade of experience with both so I know what Im talking about here. They have a wholesale dealer on about 300W and north of 3300S but they dont sell direct to the public. Peachtree is an aluminum clad wood window...right up there with Pella and Anderson.

Pella makes a good window but I never sold them, just going from what other building contractors told me. Ive never dealt with Champion...dont know 'em at all. Peachtree has the only warrantied product on the market. Also, are you contracting the work out or doing it yourself? A whole house shouldnt cost you more than 10k...total for both windows and doors. Its worth your while to do some more bidding. Take the house plans/rebuild plans in to the dealer/supplier and get a bid yourself to compare it to the bid you get from the contractor, then you will well informed. You can also act as your own contractor and should eb able to get the contractor pricing for the whole job. If you cant then go someplace else until you do. :2thumbs:

Windows... GRRRRR! I am going to rant for a bit.

I live in a condo, and the people upstairs were replacing their bedroom windows. Alls good, but I work weekend nights.

I was waken up by the sound of glass breaking. I flew out of bed and looked out the window, and checked all my windows. Then I heard a saws-all. After a bit I heard a compressor and a nail gun.

It seems as if the guy was breaking the window, and sawing thru the frame to remove the old windows.

Anyways, The first window he just let the glass fall to the sidewalk. The second window, he laid out a plasic tarp.

To make it even worse, I picked up his mess today, five days after his construction project. I thought they would have cleaned it up with garbage being picked up in the morning, but guess I was wrong.

I took all the frames, pieces of wood, and the plastic tarp of broken glass and put it in the middle of their carport. I cleand up what broken pieces I could see in the snow and put them in a plastic grocery bag and hung them on their doornob.

made me feel a bit better.
