Anybody have experience in this? A lot of people say it can't be done, but I've heard a few say it can.

Somebody's desktop monitor is broken, so they want to use their laptop ONLY as a monitor for their desktop PC. The next alternative is using Remote Desktop Connection through the laptop to connect to the desktop, but that's limited with the broadband connection.

If you get a RGB cable and connect the two, isn't it possible to configure a profile on the laptop as monitor only?

Why would you want to do this? Monitors cost almost nothing.... and you can get used monitors for nothing. I just tossed two 21" tube monitors becase no one wanted them. Took them down to the DI.

My bro in law is currently using a tube monitor as a replacement, but they're huge and he just doesn't have the room.

He'll eventually get another flat screen, but for now he wants to use the laptop.

Seriously, I just did the same...

As for your question, I think the answer is "not easily." You can't reverse the connections on the laptop connection. I imagine you'd have to rewire the thing...

I've been buying 22" Acer LCD's for $230. Great monitors at a great price. Small ones are cheaper, The 19" were around $150. Right now I'm using a 24" Acer LCD that I picked up for $250.

I just bought a new computor for my dad. I didn't want the 19" that came with it and they would only give me a $100 credit.... wish I had of known and I could have picked up the 19", but the only thing it was good for around here was a paper weight.

Here is a great deal on a 22" if anyones interested:

:lol8: Well, I guess if you have a couple hundred bucks to throw around, it's OK.

I can't even replace the speakers in my truck right now.

That goes directly to the "Poor Musician's Fund" for music I "steal".
