When you want to do something you have not done before...
Bo and his friend Tim and I met in Zion this morning intending to do Petroglyph Canyon, but it looked cold and snowy. We park across from a place that looked warm and sunny, so up we went. Fun peak! Awesome view from on top.
We were done with plenty of daylight so we headed off to explore a wash/canyon we saw from the peak. Another awesome hike! It ended in a great summit and view point.
The only problem today was the sandstone was so wet it broke like a dirt clod! Crazy! There were no hand-holds!

Ummm.... I do love a demanding man. :naughty:
I glanced at the article... are they open to the public? Bo wanted to go there but I wanted to go to Zion.

We debated and suggested what we would do this weekend. I thought it would be fun to try to locate the Dino Tracks, but we decided to do something else. In the end we concluded that hiking up Petroglyph Canyon to the north side of "Aires Butte" and then passing the saddle on the north side to the east and on up Jughandle Arch, then down "Keyhole Canyon" back to Rt. 9 would be the fare! Well...I decided that the west facing slopes of Aires would present a problem with "Snow" so we looked up at the "Mountain" now dubbed "Ribbon Peak" (East Face) directly above Keyhole Slot. Very Inviting! It was AWESOME! On a side note...we left (cross-thread) Dinosaur Tracks in the snow on the summit! I wore my Vibram Fivefingers Footwear and they were PRIMO! Ribbon Peak sits south of Aires Butte and maybe a hundred or so feet lower, but the views are stunning. Saw a waterfall and canyon on the south side of Rt. 9 and decided to do a "walkabout" after descending Ribbon. Got to a pass with another "Pinacle Peak" overlooking Parunuweap....best photos of the day in the late afternoon. This Pinacle we have dubbed Separation Peak and is one super "Dandy" Viewpoint! ZION AFTER A SNOW STORM IS UNBEATABLE! EAST ZION RULES!

Notice the shoes.. he did wear those toe/fingers shoes until we had to climb the CRUMBLY snow covered pile of loose rocks at the top of the mountain. ;)

Thanks
I'm not, but the man that was with us, Tim is! He teaches it at a college and was filming us for some hiking show that will be on TV. Sort of cool. Tim let me use a polarizer and the photos looked so good on my camera (even though it was a cold, hazy day) but when I got home they were too dark. I have to get use to it and set my camera to where they will be lighter.

You forgot to post a picture of "Separation Lake" on the way to Separation Point Tanya! Think we'll have to head back there this Spring to do some Kayaking!

There was actually a lot of snow in Zion but we picked that area because the sun had melted it there. That mountain might have been pretty slick with snow on it. :haha:

The Album is done for Separation Canyon. I borrowed a polarizer and never used one before .... so the photos are too dark.

Maps, Photos and Bo's Trail Descriptions are all done for these two now...
These are a couple of fun ones to do that few have done before and they are good in the winter too... so when you bike riders head that way you can do a hike or two that you have not done before.
