Use this thread to post things that are 100% true about you, but that might surprise some people to find out. I'll start.....

I'm an excellent blackjack player and card counter. While attending the University of Utah I often made extra money when I needed it by card counting in the NV casinos. I actually considered making a living at it.

OK... who's next...

I call BULL SH!%. We all know your brain is incapable of winning the eternal battle with your penis. And in a casino, full of cocktail waitresses and other seductresses competing for your attention (not to mention alcohol), I'd bet my life on the fact you couldn't even count to ten. :lol8:

Thanks. I used to fly all the time when airplane rents were cheap and I was single. Some flying friends of mine run an aircraft mod company called General Aviation Modifications Inc., and their T-34 is their show plane, with the "GAMIjectors" logo all over it. Their chief engineer, George Braly, used to give me my BFRs in it, and he would insist that I show him I could perform Immelmans, split Ss, slow rolls, etc., and of course spin recoveries. We would have a blast.

When I was learning to fly, I asked my instructor to teach me spins (it's not required by the FAA), and I took to them right away.

Their aren't any aerobatics in this film, but it does show Abby and me having a terrific time in a nice little 152 I used to rent...

This always surprises me. In Canada, it's required. (And yeah, fun!) I think the flight I enjoyed most was in a 1934 Waco biplane (as a passenger only.) A loop in an open cockpit biplane (leather helmet and all) is something to experience!

I enjoy flying, rock climbing, hiking & scrambling. But I'm afraid of heights. :eek2:

I have no consumer debt either (I do have a mortgage though and a few student loans leftover), just no credit card debt. I have no finance degree of any sort - just parents who really, really suck at money and I learned what NOT to do from them.

I have played the flute for 18+ years and I am in a profession flute ensemble.

When I was 23, I was red carded to fight forest fires but it wasn't my cup of tea.

My husband and I have lived together since the first day we met.

I have idiopathic anaphylaxis but haven't had an episode since 10/2001. I had about 20 ER visits in just 2000 alone.

I grew up in a house that was heated by nothing but a coal stove in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. The house was located in the middle of a 200 acre open hayfield and the end of 1/2 mile driveway. It was 19 miles of dirt road to get to our driveway. I have worked in the fields, the woods and the barns. For seven years I worked on a chicken farm grading eggs etc. I really like chickens, but just learning to eat eggs again.

I had to bid on a cello and a electric range. First bid I got pinned by two other contestants. The second bid I just didn't get it. Oh well, banned for life now. Glad I didn't get to the showcase, the big one was a wood grain station wagon for the grand prize. I would have hated to win that and had to pay taxes on it.

I am a perfectionist when it comes to some things  --- even over hanging out with the handsome :naughty: posse of Uutah.com (yeah I know I am a little off!)

I had to deal with the nightmare I have to get ready for 2 times each year... the BEST WESTERN INSPECTION!!! -- next one is March... so I will go away for a while again then.

:eek2: :eek2: :eek2: :eek2: :eek2: :eek2: :eek2:

So... the inspection was suppose to be today :ne_nau: but yesterday he called and asked if he could come a day  early!!!! of course I said yes  since he is a nice guy and all ... then he said he would be at my hotel in 2 hours. He was there in 1 :eek2: :frustrated:

We were trying for a perfect score but we got called on the same thing we did last time... dang smokers burn the outdoor carpet constantly! You can only replace it so often! Grrrrrr! Seems the only solution is to find flooring they can't burn.

We did great though! We got the "highest score in Utah" --- we were the last hotel on his list so he knew the scores ---- and since we were last he was hoping to do 2 inspections in one day and go home.... thus the day early request.

I am so glad its over! I wanted  to join everyone that came this way last weekend but the inspection had to be the priority! Next time!

But guys!!!! --- you really need to eat at the Buffalo Bistro and drive the Scenic Byways --- instead of the highway :ne_nau: and Mesquite. :ne_nau:

In 1970 I built hanggliders for Electra Flyer. A company owned by Larry Newman and Ben Abruzzo. Ben Abruzzo and Maxi Anderson later went on to be the first to fly a balloon across the Atlantic "Double Eagle 2". I flew hanggliders for 9 years; crashed and destroyed 3, broke my back in 1974 when I stalled on take off. Sailed the north Pacific and south Pacific and SW Atlantic for 2 years on my parents sailboat and on a publisher from NZ's boat. In 1981 I crewed a sailboat on the Sydney Austrailia to Rio de Janeiro, Cape Horn Classic Yacht Race (longest single leg Yacht Race) 9000 NM around Cape Horn, and we won on handicap by over 4 days. I taught Global Survival in the USAF from 1975 til 1979 and Sally Ride (first woman astronaut to go into space on the Space Shuttle) was a student when I taught Water Survival at Homestead AFB, Fl. in 1977-79. Have 2 kids, a son 21 and a daughter 22. They are half Brasilian. My wife is Brasileira. My Daughter just married a Russian and lives in SLC. I have hiked with ICE! I know some of the folks on Uutah and look forward to meeting more. I love my family and friends and being in UTAH!

I think ICE submitted that saying?!
The journey is taking a toll on the body, but I'm just not ready to "Skid In Sideways" yet! :haha: No movies, but Tanya and I will have a book published one day...not a bio or anything, but rather a guidebook to share some of the finest places on Earth! Southern Utah and Northern Arizona! I went back and googled Larry Newman and realized that I didn't start building Gliders until 1974 when Electra Flyer was incorporated....I started flying in 1970! I remember sort of how I learned! Rented an old Chandelle tow kite retired from Bush Gardens? in florida and a small shop in Alb. purchased and rented them out. We had to duct tape the sails and use bailing wire to hold them together. No worries! A quick stop at the liquor store for a bottle of tequilla and off to "The Dig"! The first time I finally got airborne, the dang powerlines got in the way, but Jose told me to keep it steady and "Dive, Dive Dive!" I have not a clue why I didn't "skid in sideways" at a young age, but I won't argue! :2thumbs:

These are boring compared to others.

- I fish around 200 days a year but eat fish about 2-3 times a year.

- I married a teenager...of legal age...and only one.

- I viewed Star Wars 3 in it's original 1080p native resolution which Lucas would only allow to be played on certain projectors. For him to have let it be viewed was very rare, especially since it hadn't hit the theaters yet. The projector I viewed it on was $250k residential projector displayed on a 20' screen. It was the best picture I have ever seen and will probably ever see.

- A client of mine interested in purchasing that same projector flew me from Heber to Las Vegas to pick him up then on to San Fran and back in his private jet just to view this projector which took all of one hour.

- I've helped in designing, installing, and setting up two home theaters in Deer Valley and Jackson Hole that has cost over 1.5 million dollars each. Watching movies have never been as satisfying since.

This one's easy for me, cause nobody on here really knows me. :haha:

- I somehow managed going from Dell computer Tech to Systems Engineer IV for Zions Bank overnight, without getting a degree, without experience, without fudging my resume, and without knowing somebody on the inside.

- When I was a kid, I set off a 12ga shotgun shell in my hand.

- When I was a teenager, my father accidentally shot me in the face with a 9mm pistol. (ricochet)

- When I was first born, I was switched at birth and it was several days before the error was discovered.

- My great, great grandfather was an outlaw turned US Marshal. It wasn't until the late 80's - early 90's that his fortune of stolen gold was found ($300,000,000 worth of gold bars) just south of Eureka, UT. The money would have stayed with the family, except he was kicked in the head by his mule shortly after burying it and lost his short term memory. There's karma for ya. :ne_nau:

- The first fish I ever caught (at the age of 8) set a state record for bluegill.

How about a name? Western history is a bit of a hobby with me.

Being both an outlaw and marshall was not really out of the ordinary back in the day. The Earp brothers certainly worked both sides of the fence along with Pat Garrett, Bat Masterson, Texas Ben Thompson and many others.

Since Savannah really wants to know.....

Like someone else said ... I say so much more about me online than I ever do offline! There is no comparison....

But just in case you don't know my whole life story by now....

1. Abused as a kid.... pretty bad.
2. Moved to SLC for 6th grade. Liked it there... was into sports. Someone was doing their Master Thesis on me. I thought it was cool and liked talking to the guy. Was mostly about athletics rather than about my deviant behavior. :haha: Started to ditch school that year .. a lot! Would go to the YMCA after school and wrestle with the boys team. There were no girls wrestling at that time, but I was allowed to practice with them. Love wrestling!!!
3. Moved to Kingman Arizona for 7th grade. I loved it there. Was really into sports and was voted best female athlete of the year. That was the only school I was in that did that sort of thing. I liked that.
4. Moved to Vegas for 8th grade. Found that YMCA and again was allowed to wrestle with the boys team. Started to ditch school again. Showed up for P.E. and tennis after school. Hung out in gangs sort of thing became school "tough guy." Often in fights and missing many classes. More of a loner at school. I did not fit in. I liked being with the older crowd I would hang out with when not in school. Although in these sorts of groups I never tried drugs and rarely drink.
5. Dropped out of school ---- went for one week when I was 15 and no more. Got married. Took 4 years to have a baby though.... and then divorced right after he was born.
6. Moved to Cedar City and got my B.S. in Biology. Mellowed... became a good mother and got 4.0 in College. I am told I am a fanatic about stuff like that.
7. Moved back to Vegas and got my M.S. in Exercise Physiology. Not 4.0! I worked hard for that. It was not easy changing subjects for the new degree! :ne_nau:
8. My son was doing judo and wrestling and had been since he was 5. He was so tough! We would drive to California, Mexico and of course around Nevada and he would fight often 3 different categories. I started Judo and after the first year was beating the men black belts in Vegas. I was invited to train at the National Judo Institute in Colorado Springs.... so we moved there right after he won Jr. Nationals in San Diego. My son entered the Jr. Olympic Tournament at the Olympic Training Center about 2 weeks after we moved there and instantly become the NJI Coaches favorite Judo kid! He was 9. He started wrestling again once there winning the state championship each year. The kid is tough! He was invited to train with the adults in Judo and never did loose a wrestling or judo match..... except his first judo match! He lost to a girl! Poor kid! He did not even know the rules then..... but still it was a girl.
9. Soon I was nationally and internationally ranked at 123 lbs and trained and competed with the NJI and the Olympic Training Center. We spent years training and competing until we were in a car accident with a diesel.
10. Unable to do Judo anymore we moved to Mt. Carmel Jct. and you all know the rest.

You are one tough woman Tanya! I have lots of 'little stuff' I guess that I dont really give much though to, like most people, stuff that you yourself would'nt really consider all that unusual but others would. In my teenage years I was a little wild I guess...out of hand if you ask my parents...enough so that they sent me to Hawaii as part of a youth work program in 81'. It was a turning point in my life - enough so that I 'cleaned up' for lack of a better description. I planted pineapple for Maui Land and Pineapple - lived in dorms with a crapload of guys - did alot of stuff that very few people even know about to this day...and basically worked my a$$ off. I recommend it to anyone with problem teens.
...and I fell in love with the islands, the beach, anything tropical...and learned to surf there...

Like someone else said ... I say so much more about me online than I ever do offline! There is no comparison....

Oh Tanya - it breaks my heart to know that you had such a rough childhood. You are most definitely a survivor with a wonderful life now and someone I admire very much. :2thumbs:

More stuff about me:

-Married the day after I turned 19 to a man 13 yrs my senior. My parents disapproved. :nono:

-Divorced before I was 21 - no kids. (Parents were right) :haha:

-Business owner by the time I was 21 (Shell franchise)

-Have all sisters (my youngest sister had a son that my parents adopted, so technically I have a brother) and was sent to all girl schools growing up.

-Attended LSU to earn a teaching degree. Decided to major in business instead.

-I've eaten bbq'ed alligator.

-I am a workaholic.

I have never thought of it as bad... just how it was.

I have not been even brave enough to try the Buffalo Bistro's famous testicals.

Getting married young is so dumb!!!!! I try and get my kids to understand that and wait until they are in their 40's! It's a LONG life to live with one man. I also try to tell them to have very few children.

Hear that guys... the woman is SINGLE!

Really interesting to read such out of the ordinary backgrounds, especially for someone who was always a practical, well grounded, follow the rules kind of guy. It's always impressive when someone makes it through "unfortunate" circumstances and comes out a successful person. My congratulations.

By the way, I married at age 20 and have been very happy with just one woman. Different strokes...

That in itself deserves a hearty congratulations! :2thumbs: You were fortunate to meet the right girl early in life. I'm still looking for Mr. Right, or at least Mr. Right Now......... :haha:

But that's 20 years of dating and experiencing other women you missed out on. :eek2: While it's sweet... I really want my kids to deeply experience life... perhaps it's just me that puts too much emphasize on men though.

My great, great grandfather was an outlaw turned US Marshal.

How about a name? Western history is a bit of a hobby with me.

Being both an outlaw and marshall was not really out of the ordinary back in the day. The Earp brothers certainly worked both sides of the fence along with Pat Garrett, Bat Masterson, Texas Ben Thompson and many others.

I don't know what he was known by, now that I think about it, but his real name was Frank Gillespie. Little more of a bio...

As an infant, a log rolled out of the fire and onto his leg, shrinking the tendons in his leg. the local Piaute Indians came by and offered their snake oil remedy and advised his mother to rub a little on his leg every day. His mom, thinking that if a little is good, then a lot is better, overdid it with the oil and the tendons became too long and he still wound up with a gimpy leg. His mom, embarrassed over having a cripple for a son (his father was already dead at this point), she left town, leaving him for dead. He was found and raised by the Piautes and eventually the only way you could tell he wasn't indian in blood was his blue eyes. They renamed him Narient, and he was told that his father was murdered by the mormons. So, he robbed banks and stagecoaches, including several from Wells Fargo (where the majority of his gold bars came from, though they denied it ever happening despite the bank logo being on the bars that were uncovered) and he would tell everybody he robbed that he was the local bishop's son. After learning the truth that his father was killed by Apache Indians while guiding people out west, he became a mormon himself... and there's more, but I'm hijacking this thread. :nono: I just love reminiscing over his life story. He was a hard man and always said, "They may kill me, but they'll never be able to eat me." Tough old buzzard...

On a side note, I don't know why, but I always thought his name was Burt Masterson... huh... :ne_nau:

Oh!! Here's something surprising and interesting that you gun lovers might like:

My ancestors, James and John Millar invented the revolving cylinder for guns and then sold the patent to Colt. My grandfather (now my father) has a signed rifle. I have a copy of the original patent signed by Andrew Jackson!

Or, possibly 50 years of frustration and disappointment, trying to find someone who would have me, and that I could tolerate. Just my personality, but I've been happy so it's hard to see why I should have done differently. Just hope your kids will be happy, don't try to figure out HOW they should be happy.
